Well, 2008 is here and I know at least a handful of us are getting married this year.

I'm getting married on August 23, back in my home town of Baltimore. I'm getting more and more excited about it, but it seems like it is going to take FOREVER for that time to come.

As for my progress in planning, the church is reserved and the reception site is taken care of along with lininens, music, food, bar and the cake.

Right now, I'm in the process of mailing out the save-the-dates. I plan to finish that up today. And, last night, I had my first "wedding bad dream." LOL....!!!!

So, things are coming together.

My daughter is getting married July 25. We are pretty excited now that Christmas is over to get serious. I shopped alittle yesterday but the stores still don't have much summer "MOB" dresses to choose from. WE opted not to save the date officially but handed out little cards at Christmas and emailed out of town family about the date. Is yours to be a big wedding? As in 200 people? Because DD's is on a Friday night we want to have a picnic the next day for anyone who is staying over. Feels like we have two parties to plan!!

Naw, not that big. We are inviting about 125, so I expect 90-100ish.

Save-the-date cards are invitations that you send out 6 or more months in advance so that your guests can start their planning for your special day. A lot of the time these days, they are just e-mailed out (my cousin is getting married in Aug. and I just received her e-mail about saving the date). It basically lists the date, time and location and general housing arrangements. It does not ask for an RSVP (generally). Again, this is just a way to let your guests know that you want them to be there on your special day and give them enough time to plan for it (especially if a lot of guests will have to travel a long distance and will need flight/hotel arrangements. 6 weeks is not enough time to cheaply plan for those things if you wait until the invitations to let people know). Not everybody does them, but they are becoming more popular these days. Hope that helps.

I'm getting married in July! I'm so excited! I just wish I didn't have pesky college, too! Actually, I love school and I will probably go to graduate school, but I don't really let myself relax enough to think weddings with as much work as I have right now. :( But it will all be wonderful later when I graduate and I can be all-wedding for a few weeks!! And then I will be married and bf will be my HUSBAND!

Is anyone writing their own vows or using the traditional ones?

Ah yes, a new thread. Thanks Sharon! It seems that new ones revive the topic. Ha.

For those who have followed the last thread (Wedding not-so-impossible), our original date was going to be in June but we have moved it to sometime in August. Not sure what day yet though. We gotta get moving!

Right now, DF and I are trying to arrange a day when we can go site shopping. I'll let you all know when that will be.

FINALLY! I say finally we are getting things done. LOL!

Today I go with my mom to order the dress! If the same dress is there then great! I'll come back later to post it. My parents are also going with FH to look at rings. Ha. Then tomorrow we are visiting a site. I haven't yet decided on an alternative and I think it will be a good idea to do so. Then the next must book is a photographer.

The wedding will still be small and intimate. But let me tell you. Don't think that tiny weddings are easier to plan. It's tougher to choose people since it's smaller! So I'd like to ask anyone out there who had a smaller wedding...how did you decide who to invite? What if you have close friends whom you didn't see or talk to for awhile? Did you have to rekindle that relationship with them first?

I hope the dress shopping goes well, and as well with the site...Im guessing its going to be an outdoor wedding now? wow it sounds like you've got alot to get done.

I went to wedding festival and it was nice...but at same time im like hmm ive gotta alot of budgeting i need to do...I think the most expensive thing will be the photographer... they sure are costy.

are engagement pictures necessary?

I would say no since my husband and I did not have any done.

We're having an art major friend take engagement pictures. Or I should say, I'm having an art major friend take pictures and fiance will show up. He could care less! ha. I mostly just need a nice one for the newspaper. She takes beautiful pictures.

Wedding Party drama/confusion:
I'm having my sisters (both will be co-maids of honor) and two girlfriends (bm's 1 and 2). These are the girls that I went on fall break trips across the country with and stayed up ALL NIGHT talking to during the past few years at school. bm1 graduated last year and has a job far away. bm2 is a senior with me and taking a million classes, trying to find a job/gradschool plan for next year, etc. I barely have time to chat with bm1 on the phone. when we talk online she complains about being single (half the guys in her church are interested in her) and is really harsh/cynical about practically everything. bm2 seems really distant. I'm not saying it is all her fault - I could go to her room just as easily as she could stop by mine. We live in the same dorm, but we have no classes together this semester. She works on the weekends, and I work during the week (as well as being a fulllll tiiiime student). When I do find the time to talk to bm 1 on the phone, I hear things about bm 2 (like she started dating someone three weeks ago!? why didn't I know he was even in the picture?!) The three of us talk on facebook a lot, so bm2 could easily have said "i've been talking to so and so lately and we decided to start dating" at any time. I feel like bm2 hardly talks to me. It seems like they think we don't have anything in common now that I'm getting married. I don't know what to say. I'm still the same person... did getting engaged drive a wedge through my friendships? It's not like I'm going to ask them to not be in the wedding or anything, but I hate that it feels like we're hardly in each other's lives right now.
(thanks for letting me vent!)

Abby I'm sorry for your situation. It's tough because these are your close friends but at the same time, you want someone in your party that will love and support you all the way. Just pray for them and also don't be afraid to share how you feel. Their witness to your joyous occasion before G-d is important.

As for engagement pics, we may decide to do an engagement charcoal sketch. Some different and we plan to have the mat of the sketch all signed by our guests.

Ordered my dress today and got my engagement ring!

abby I am sorry for how things are going at the moment, its tough when everyone is into their own lives, and busy with work and school....So I suggest maybe calling and talking to them and maybe even go out for a meal, now I know you said one of them lives far off ? how far is far?

Trish thats wonderful!!! What dress did you go with?

Right now my wedding planning is at a pause...

Not necessary, but we had them done and were really glad we did. It was our "trial run" with our wedding photographer to make sure we liked him and his work. We went to a local park and he took some wonderful pictures. We only ordered a few enlargements, but I did also frame several of the proofs that came with his sitting fee. :)

I lurk here a lot. I want to be better about actually logging in and participating so I don't just jump in with these crazy emotional outbursts! I know it is only realistic that we are going crazy with the busyness of our lives right now. The bm who is at school with me and I are both taking 19 credit hours at a rigorous private college and the other one is a 12-hours drive away, so it is hard to keep all the connections up. I know it will all get better eventually.

Is everybody hanging in there physically?? I swear sometimes I think I'm going to die if I can't be with my sweetie... I try to remind myself that part of the wedding planning is that we plan to get married with a clean conscience, but mannnnnnnnnnn I want to get married!

Is everything ok with your situation, fluffmonkey??

Bethany thats a good idea, I may try that out with a photograhper I had in mind to see how I like his work.

Im happy we are getting ready to finally set a wedding date, I could look and get ideas and start to plan some things but with out a date its hard to continue to do things ya know.
so thats why I was kinda at a pause. lol

Same here fluff. Now the pause for me has to over with. Ha.

Looks like we are shooting for August 30th!

Abby, I'm hangin in there but I understand how hard it can be. Just keep sticking to your boundaries and keep talking about it with DF and you should be fine. Look forward and PLAN the wedding night.
