For the first time ever, I started reading a book again right after finishing it the first time. I thoroughly enjoy Donald Miller's writing and this is perhaps his best. More to follow, but has anyone else read this yet? Thoughts?

I, too, wasn't aware of this book until I saw your post. I've read all of Miller's other books. I will probably read this one as well. While I enjoy Miller's slow motions through life, Hollywood saw it otherwise.

The book was just released in the last couple of weeks. I highly recommend it - great writing, thought-provoking, funny, poignant, and uplifting. I don't recommend it though if you're looking for theological study; that's not Donald Miller. But as I mentioned this in the previous post, this is the first time I've ever started rereading a book right after finishing it.

The book follows several paths (speaking of Hollywood, one of the recurring plots is how Miller was approached by filmmakers to make a movie loosely based on his life and previous books). The overarching theme is that we are all creating stories about our lives, and that true living will bring about the best stories. Fascinating concept.

Anyone else read this yet?

Is that the same Donald Miller I knew? He claimed to be a strong christian, attended my wife's childhood church (assembly of God) and the campus bible study I did.... <LINK>

Nope.

Donald Miller, author of Blue like Jazz, was born in 1971. The murders that the link above mentions were committed in the years this Donald Miller was 6 and 7 years old.

Actually, his first murder was on New Years Eve '72 with his fiancee. I had no idea when I was in the bible study with him that he was responsible. He was the last to see her alive but was dismissed by the police as too "squeeky clean" to do such a thing. But then young women started disappearing.... It was a scarey time for slender blondes in their early 20s.

I don't know if that was one of the murders he admitted to.

That's so awful! And scary... that people who claim to be Christians can go under the radar and do horrific things. (Hmm... sounds like fodder for another thread!)

But knowing that it happened in '72 definitely cinches it -- that the two Donald Millers are different people. The author of Blue like Jazz wouldn't have had a fiancee at a year old in 1972!
