My husband and I are soon going to start the process of adoption. Here in Nebraska, most adoptions go through the state, not through agencies. We know the initial paperwork and such is going to take a while, so we are trying to get things in order so when my husband returns from deployment in Iraq, we can get going!

Now, we are not opposed to adopting children from across state lines. I don't think we will go internationally. What are the differences in adopting in state and from out of state? Has anyone ever done this and have some words of wisdom?

I have not done this, but I am someone who is adopted, and I just said a prayer for you and for the baby that God has planned for you. Adoption is a wonderful thing.

Start at Adoptuskids.org. It's a great start.

We had our homestudy done through our county and while we were foster parents, we were very active in trying to find our own placement through interstate adoption means. We were on the short list for matching four times but was never matched. We simply had to call our caseworker and ask her to send our homestudy to them for those particular children. We never did adopt from out-of-state-- all four of our adopted children were cases right here in our county.

Good luck and God bless!
