I was just wondering out of curiosity ,what products do they test on animals? It seems as if everything, if not all that I buy says it doesn't test on animals. So I was wondering what products do for sure test on animals. I want to make sure that I don't buy products that do.

I am not really sure. I know that they test cosmetics and things of that nature. The best way to find out is to visit the PETA website. They have a wide variety of information that may be useful to you.

Then you are going to cut yourself way short on products you will buy. Cosmetics, shampoos, creams, sunscreen, nearly all medicenes (over the counter and script), foods, and food additives etc. etc. etc.

Why do you want to not use things tested on animals?

Thanks
RC

It would be a boycott of sorts in order to influence certain companies to refrain from testing on animals. The reasons vary but the more radical of the PETA folk believe that animals should have the "right" not to suffer for our health or convenience.

Yup. I personally take some comfort in knowing that my medications aren't going to cause large unsightly carcinomas on my face. I feel sorry for the pig that died to verify that, but if he hadn't died that way he would have died a short time before bits of him were put on my grill.

Naturally, there are limits. I don't see the need to kill an animal to verify things that can be tested in a tube.

I thoroughly enjoy testing pigs with barbeque sauce.

Sorry... I do agree that animals should not be tormented, but this PETA business is completely antithetical to morality. They rank animals at the same place they do humans. There is no regard for soul, morality, etc. within the human populace. By definition, a right should only be associated with people. Should people be punished for abusing animals? Sure. That does not equate to using animals to test medications, etc. as an abandonment of moral fiber.

A pig is a pig is a pork chop.

It's not reasonable to know how some unknown products will affect animal or human tissue. We can learn how certain products affect humans by observing how they affect animals.

There are all kinds of drugs that would kill or harm humans if there were no animal tests. THEN people would sue the drug companies because they didn't know.

28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

Does not the above scripture give us dominion over every animal. Dominion means the control or exercise of control over the animals or sovereignty over the animals. Did God not place them here for our benefit?

Animal testing isn't always necessary. I take medications that will have been tested on animals. I accept I have no choice in that matter...

What I do have a choice in, is deciding not to buy products that have been tested on animals if I don't need them ~ there are many products that haven't been tested on animals.

There are many unnecessary tests that are carried out on animals ~ do we really need dogs to inhale any tobacco products to see if they get cancer? We all know that tobacco causes cancer ~ what gives us the right to give it to a dog? Why not give the tobacco to human volunteers (don't tell me there wouldn't be any!)..

I don't believe that God giving us dominion over animals gives us the right to treat them how we want to or do what we want with them ~ and I object that Christians use this scripture to defend companies that aren't Christian companies... God was giving man dominion over fish and animals when man was Adam ~ before for fall ~ and the meat and the fish were given for food, not to subject them to many unnecessary experiments...

Again, I take medication that has been tested on animals. I accept that there are things that require testing. There are also thing that are being tested on animals that don't require testing.

I can see your point to a degree. But what if that testing, to use your example making a dog breath tobacco smoke, leads to a cure for cancer? I have a dog and I love her dearly but if her death could save the lives of human beings I would gladly sacrifice her.

And look up the word dominion. It means we have complete control over them.

Many of the experiments on dogs smoking have been done to see how long it takes dogs to get cancer (or if they will get cancer) ~ once the experiment is completed, the dog is destroyed.

How can that provide a cure for cancer?

I know that is what it means...

That gives people the right to treat animals the way they want ~ which may mean beating them, starving them, working them to death, killing species off so we can have an animal rug on our hearth (or just for the heck of it)? etc... Is that really what God was talking about when He gave us dominion?

I think not.

There are a number of effects of tobacco for instance, that we DON'T need to test for. If they know that smoking causes cancer, then they would not need to test for tobacco as a cause of cancer, but I can imagine a number of cell and tissue chemical reactions that are still unknown. Many of those are probably beyond the scope of the understanding for most of us.

Secondarily, I can imagine a number of treatments that areas of yet untried on either humans or animals. Drug companies make trips to the Amazon region looking for new plants with unusual characteristics that might produce new drugs in the treatment of cancer.

Third, what about teaching environments to medical students? Are books and computers enough?

"The research is conducted inside universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, farms, defense establishments, and commercial facilities that provide animal-testing services to industry."
