My three sons will be starting school in a few weeks at a private academy. They have attended boarding school before, and enjoy it, and have also been educated at home by myself, my wife, and various governesses. This is not uncommon in Europe, but I understand that it is much less common in the USA. Are there any other parents here whose children board at school? Thanks! Thor

It's not unheard of here in the states but it isn't very common at all. It's mostly military academies and the like. My kids attend public schools locally. Blessings, Garsy

The cost is prohibitive here in the USA, and many of the boarding schools and military schools have closed over the years. Others that once took students at age eight now start at age twelve. My kids attended public school. I did attend high school with a fellow who was in serious trouble, on the wrong path so to speak, and his parents sent him to a very strict military academy. He wound up in prison anyhow.

Boarding schools in the USA There's a link I found that lists the boarding schools here in the states. This likely isn't all of them - but I'm sure it's a good number! I was to much of a home-body. Boardings school would have been miserable for me. Blessings, Garsy

If I had gone to boarding school, since this was before discreet pull-ups had been invented, I probably would have ended up suicidal. Since this is a common problem, how do kids who have it make it at boarding schools?

thorkraki, that is not at all common in the U.S. Military schools are used as a threat to misbehaving boys.
