We usually keep ours set at 76 on the main floor and 78 on the second. If we have a hard time sleeping I will turn it down at night on the second floor.

I don't know, we have a very old thermostat and no AC, so we just turn it all the way down (about 10C) and leave it there until September or so.

Before we got a ceiling fan, we kept it at 78*. Now that we have the fan, we keep it at 80* (or if my husband is gone, I turn it up to 82*). With the fan on and the AC at 78*, I still wrap up in a blanket because it's too cold for me But I also wear a jacket if it's in the 70's outside...

in the room I'm in during the day, 76

sleeping at night 75 (hubby's request, because he's just hot all the time, He would like it lower, but we compromise there) =)

I usually keep the furnace off from June until October, but this year we've still been using it because of cooler than normal weather. We don't have AC.

79 or 80. Often we have the furnace fan running to circulate the air without running the AC.

I am in peri-menopause, so my house thermostat is at 73, while my internal thermostat is a toasty 112.

My electric bill is still below $100 and I provide lap blankets to any guest requiring one.

eta b/c apparently my internal thermostat affects my ability spell correctly

I'm also hmmm....okay....menopausal (and I'm in my early 40's ....long story)...anyway, if I have my way, it'll be at least 68 degrees but we are a one income family so it's between 76-78 degrees during the day. At night, we turn it off and just open up the windows and leave the fans on in the bedrooms.

God bless ya doll - I would need to be heavily medicated if I had no a/c...for probably the next several years anyways.

74 year round. However, I drop it to 73 when working in the yard and want to come in for a cooling off break.

if we left our windows open, and ac off in the summer... we'd melt. There have been times... many times... where the *low* temp outside is in the 90's. We simply cannot take it that hot. I don't know how people lived in Tx. before ac.

However, that is exactly what we used to do in Pa, since there was no ac.

Between 78-80 though we prefer a much cooler house, but saving every penny counts.

Us too.

I'm peri-menopausal as well and I've ALWAYS got the car ac up full blast! My poor dh, though. At night, it's probably low 60's but I've got the ceiling fan at full blast just so I can sleep!

We don't have a thermostat or air conditioning. When it gets really hot like it has been this past week (upper 90's for highs), I open the windows at night and have fans to blow in the cool night air. When I get up in the morning I close the windows and the curtains and it stays fairly cool all day. Even on the hottest days it didn't get much above 80 in the house, and that's only when I got home and started cooking supper. If it gets too hot we can go to the basement. It's usually a lot cooler there than it is upstairs in the summer.

If it's really too hot to get to sleep I get a freeze-pack that goes in a lunchbox from the freezer and hold it or put it against my back while I am going to sleep. It helps to make me comfortable enough to go to sleep.

My husband sleeps with one of those poncho liners and a woolly hat and he's comfortable

The alternative is for me to sweat all night...and be cranky for lack of sleep, etc.

I win.

Between 75-79, depending on what we're doing and where we are. If we're all just sitting around on our computers or doing hobbies, 78 is perfectly cool since our house is very energy efficient. If we're all in the livingroom, 78 is sometimes too cool. It's the coolest room in the house because of the number of vents and the way they are angled towards the sitting area. But when I'm cleaning house, or we're having music practice here I crank it down. We set it at 78 overnight.

It would not surprise me in the least.

In fact, I'm fairly certain they're onto something.

During the day about 75.

At night about 65. it's about the same in the winter. My bedroom is on the 3rd floor and I need it cool to sleep. The AC doesn't get up there too well: there are only 2 vents on the whole 3rd floor. I have the AC on and I have a fan blowing on me becuase I would need it at about 60 or lower to be cool enough to sleep.

We don't have AC. But the thermostat is set to turn on if it gets below 50 overnight.

When we have had AC, I kept it set around 78. Cool enough to offer relief from outside, but not to run constantly (we lived in PA).

I turn it off during the summer. We don't have AC.
