I want to change my Avatar. I chose one of the pictures on the forum, and I think some people thought it was really me, so I want to change it. I went to My Profile, then to Choose Avatar Picture, and chose one. But it won't change. I've tried several times. What do I do?

I couldn't explain it any better then Ezri did in a recent thread....so I am reposting what she said......she even has pics for someone that needs to see it to understand it!!!! (steps 1-4 don't apply to you though...it was for a thread where she provided a bunch of pre-sized avatars for homeschoolers. Make sure the pic you choose is within the limits....145x145 and max of 10kb)

AVATAR UPLOAD DIRECTIONS!!!

all done up with Screen Shots so you can SEE what steps to take and where to click AND get a glimpse of my cluttered desktop if the image is too small to read you can click "ALL SIZES" just above the image to make it bigger.

Step #1

Step #2

Step #3

Step #4<---cluttered desktop...

Step #5

Step #6

Step #7

Step #8

Step #9

Step #10

It looks like a lot of steps but it really doesn't take very long at all.

I think the thing that messes up most folks is Step #10. They get the little screen saying the "file uploaded successfully" and they think that is all there is to it but you MUST scroll down and click APPLY for the changes to take affect.

I did steps 5-10 and it still didn't work. It did say that the photo uploaded successfully, but there's still no avatar. However, when I chose a picture from the websites collection, I had no problem. Does anyone have any advice? hehe...

make sure you did the last step too...after it says it uploaded successfully then go to the bottom of the "My Profile" page and make sure you hit APPLY for it to go through. If APPLY doesn't work then try OK at the bottom of the page.

I am having trouble also in getting one of my photos on as as avatar.

I changed the size to 270 x 270 but the file is too large.

What is the term on the soft ware that changes the photo to 10k or less?

Thanks

Scott

You must have at least 50 posts to post a custom avatar.

When you do make it to 50 posts you need to remember to change the photo to 145x145 or less (and less than 10k) for an avatar.

I have no idea what you are talking about. You need to have it to the parameters before the system will allow you to upload it as an avatar.

Thank you! I forgot to click apply at the end. Avatar changed now. No more pretty 20-something girl with nice long hair. Sigh. Oh, well.

I'm having a similar problem. Whenever I attempt to click on the option for uploading my own personal avatar it simply takes me back to the top of my profile page. No upload box, no anything. What's up with that?

yeah I was going to say the same thing....it's a pop up box. Try holding down the CTRL button when you click on it (that temporarily disables most pop up blockers)
