Just recently I went shopping at our local farmers market and I found something new in the way of oranges that I've never seen before. They are called blood oranges. They have a deep redish color to them on the inside, and an orange skin on the outside. I have not tried them yet. They don't look very appetiizing.
Does anyone know anything about this type of orange?

They're not a new fruit ~ they've been around decades.
They are divine. They're sweeter than many regular oranges. I can't get them for much of the year (they're very seasonal and the seasons over now ).
I've noticed that many retailers call them 'blush oranges' or 'ruby red' oranges ~ I suspect something to do with the word 'blood' not going down too well .
Oh, and while many of them do have red peel and flesh, there are many which look very like ordinary oranges (but they taste different).
Oh I love those red oranges. There are more sugary than the regular ones. Equally, there are red grapefruit as well which I also love more than the regular ones. So go for it, try them. They are really tasty!

Oh, yes! These are VERY yummy! I bought some unknowingly not long ago (they look like typical oranges from the outside) and they were very sweet and had a grapefruit-y flavor. Yum! I think at our grocery store they were marketed as "ruby reds".
