Anybody else involved with campaigning for their chosen candidate? I have done door hangers, attended some meetings, wear a button and talk to people... Our local group is also doing voter registration & info tables at some local events, so I will probably help out with those. Tara P

I made some calls during the primaries for Obama. I might do the same before the general.

I see nothing in either candidate that would merit my time and energy being spent furthering their political careers. As I'm sure you can gather, I am quite displeased with the duds put up for election this year.

There are already threads for debating the issues- this one is just about whether/how/why people are involved in the campaigns (which is why I didn't even mention which candidate I have campaigned for!). Rufas- I don't think it is something someone should do unless they truly support a candidate. I think it is sad that a lot of people were disappointed this year and complained because the candidate they really liked didn't make it (I personally hear it a lot from Huckabee, Edwards, and Clinton supporters), BUT they did nothing to help that candidate except cast their vote! Sadly enough if I had to pick a candidate from each party it would have been McCain & Obama. I really didn't like the other guys (and gal). I'm really not a fan of the two party dominance system but third parties rarely get it right. They try to start with a presidential candidate when they should be building a foundation (I think the Libertarians are an exception, they have a senator or some reps or something). With the current conditions any 3rd party candidate that got elected would be ate up by both the Democrats & Republicans (unless they had an almost cult leader / demagogue level of charisma).

I actively campaigned for Huckabee (first time ever campaign worker) -- I'll probably jump in a little later for McCain.

Anybody else involved with campaigning for their chosen candidate? Although I am a dyed-in-the-wool political junkie, I'm beginning to think all media should honor an "All-Star Break" this week, and banish all stories Obama and McCain to give us a vacation from the same tedious panel discussions on cable news (e.g. polls, VP choices, fist bumps, "whiny" Americans, et al). Believe me, the political gymnastics would still be there when we all got back.

I think we should take a break until 30 days prior to the election!

The GOP keeps calling for donations. Well they need them to keep some sort of pace with Obama.

Those pesky Republicans!!! How dare they!!! I resent any phone call from anyone trying to get me to spend money on anything. It is an unwarrented and undesired intrusion. I'm intelligent enough to figure out for myself whether I want to purchase a product or donate to a cause and if so, how to go about it. Of course both Democrats and Republicans do this. A few of them pretending to be the other party* because they know how much the public resents it. Sorry, rant over. * Not usually for donations but to "inform" people or ask for their vote.

I just don't answer the phone when they call. I don't want to argue with anyone about how the party has disappointed me so much that I will NOT contribute. Thank God for caller ID!! -Dave quote:

I don't answer the phone either but it still a bit of a disruption. Now with the advent of email there is no excuse. No excuse I tell you!
