A good friend of mine (mid thirties) was just diagnosed with testicular cancer. Fortunately this is highly curable form but it's a young man's cancer, typically 15-40. He had gone to a general practitioner a while ago for a "swollen" area. They gave him antibiotics. It didn't change. Being a typical guy, he thought it would just go away. It didn't. He finally called a specialist who wanted to see him ASAP. He saw him on a Monday and was scheduled for the appointment on Thursday for surgery. They removed the cancerous testicle and he is now starting radiation for an additional concerned area. Time to NOT be embarrassed or you'd be less man if you lost one or whatever ridiculous thing would keep you from examining yourself. Check them now to know what normal feels like and you'll notice changes. If you need to know what is typical do a google search. In the meantime. Pray for my friend and tell your friends that it must be done.

Hey, if you know of a good link could you please provide it on this thread.

Greetings to all. As a testicular cancer (TC) survivor myself, I most certainly can relate to this thread. I was the typical "it will go away soon" type of guy until I could ignore it no longer. I have a few tips for you guys: 1) Not a "young man's disease" any more. I was diagnosed at 44 and I know men who have been diagnosed in their late 50's. 2) It is highly curable IF CAUGHT EARLY. If you let it go, it can metastasize (spread) into vital organ areas - not pretty. 3) Self exam yourself in the shower - you can feel things better with lather. 4) TC is usually NOT accompanied by pain. Feel for unusually HARD areas or lumps. If you see one testicle growing in size, have it checked immediately by a Urologist (try to skip your GP for this one). 5) If he finds something, you'll have an ultrasound and a CT Scan and go from there. There is a great site that is geared specifically at TC treatments. Go to tc-cancer.com. It's been over two years since my diagnosis and operation. I thank my Lord Jesus Christ for sparing my life thus far, even though I stupidly waited OVER A YEAR to get checked! If anyone has any questions about this, feel free to post. I have "been there, done that". God Bless! p.s. Fantom, I will be praying for your friend.

My brother found a lump on a testicle and indeed it was cancer. it was removed along with some of his lymph nodes and he underwent radiation. He has been cancer free now for over 30 years. He also fathered a child a year after the radiation treatment. So I do the self exams along with having my GP check them at the same time he looks at the moles every year. Thanks for the reminder. NEVER be too embarrassed to check! Here is a site that not only informs about cancer but other issues that have to do with the testicles.

I started doing this about 8 or 9 years ago. I had a full physical and the dr asked if I ever did that. Had never heard of it before. So SHE showed me how (a bit embaressing!) and I check whenever I think about it.
