Guy's,

Here I am at 1230 AM and I can't sleep and I have on my mind starting up a men's club in my local area that is Christ centered. I don't know if this is God speaking to me or if it is just me.

I would love to see men get together that love Jesus and are like-minded, to fellowship and even do some good in the comunity. We all see the Jaycees and Masons and such, but what about a Christ based club where men can encourage each other to share the Gospel and help each other in their daily walk with Christ? I even can see this growing to raise funds to help in projects that better the community. Wouldn't it be great to see a Christ based club that sponsers rodeos or concerts or benefits for the poor?

Is there such an organization already established? I know of the Promise Keepers, but are they at local levels like the Jaycees? And I know the Knights of Columbus, but this isn't what I had in mind. I have some other comments to make concerning this, but I wanted to send this out to you all in here first to see if I'm crazy or if there is already such a club. Please let me know your thoughts.

Rick

Hi Rick:

I think it's a good idea. Don't have a clue as to how to go about getting started. I haven't heard of anything like this in our area, or anywhere else. That's not to say that there are not. I would say keep the vision, think about it and pray about it, and see where it goes.

Thanks for the reply Simway,

I'm thinking I should have placed this in another forum? This forum doesn't seem to get much traffic, unless this idea isn't very popular among most men, which I hope isn't the case.

Rick, I also think it would be a good idea. I was actually thinking of something similar myself. A place where Christians could go after church, or other than church, during the week, so we could fellowship and do some good. Maybe this is the sort of thing that we should be doing, to combat all the negative hangouts, and the bar scene. We need places to go, and things to do also.

I would encourage you to look into it, and get it going if you could.

Amen Saved,

You are thinking just as I am. Along with the normal secular organizations being seen in the community, we too could have an impact without the secular trappings (beer). I've done a little searching on the net for something like this and only came up with Promise Keepers and a few local churches doing their own thing. Not that these are bad, but I was looking for something in between the two ranges. I would like to see my local community of Christian men from various denominations come together and have something to look forward to that will grow us in faith and help others.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully we will have successful stories soon to share.

Rick

Exactly what I had in mind. Something outside of the church, and outside of the house. A place we could go and not worry about what will be said, what people will be wearing, and how wasted I could get. I actually have a little plan for a meeting place, maybe a cafe, where we could get together daily, and have fellowship. Maybe bible studies could be held, and local artists could come and sing some praise and worship. I was thinking of having books, bibles, along with coffee, and some good healthy food. I thought about it, but am not sure it would work in my community. Then again, if it is of the Lord, it can not fail.

What were your ideas?

My idea when sleepless two nights ago was to start a club where genuine Christian men can get together share their faith and their hopes and troubles. And where we can put our heads together and come up with fund raising events like secular organizations do, but with a evangelical and servant purpose.

Example: a local mens club in my community used to set up a BBQ shack on special occaisions (they don't anymore?). I would like to see us do something similar to raise funds for the community (youth park, food pantry, whatever) and also be evangelical at it. Not that we would directly witness to everyone who bought BBQ, but we could have available tracts and signs that encourage them to look at their eternal desitiny. If we can be visible in the community I believe we will be light and salt and un-saved men will start asking questions. Questions that hopefully will lead them to Christ.

I would love to see us do camp outs, fishing trips, maybe sponsor a golf tournament or fishing tournament.

I really want to see men together in public not being ashamed to be a Christian.

I could go on, but I'll stop for now. Thanks for the reply.

I would LOVE to go out with my Christian bachelor friends and shoot some pool, but not in a pool hall.

In Sarasota, a Pastor just started a teen hang out in a former night club. Hope it works out.

Hello Rick4Him

What dose your church have in the way of men's ministry? If yours doesn't, I think that might be the best place to start. It does seem as though the Lord is putting this type of ministry on your heart.

Have you considered asking some other Christian guys to join you for brainstorming such an endeavor?

Go for it. There are many men who are lonely and need to be with the guys, myself included. The men at our church do not get together without the whole church and then when we start to talk the wives always get in the way...."time to go..." "your kids...." "you can't do that you promised me that you...."

Know what I mean?

Well besides praying and asking God for guidance I took the first step tonight in seeing where this thing may go. I shared my vision with a good Christian friend and we are going to both pray and see where it goes. He thought it sounded good. Please pray for us that this is of God and that we are obedient. Thanks

Sounds alot like our small-group bible study group that myself and 4 other guys get together and do almost weekly....

We get together at the local starbucks early on Saturday (coffee is provided at no charge by the manager).....we do a bible study, AND we get together about once a month or so, and do some kind of ministry outreach project together (help with a local "habitat for humanity"-type project, work with one of the many church's ministries, or, just help out a few people that we are aware of that needs help....

it all started through the urging of the men's ministry of our church for the men to do "small group" things...just like we're doing.....
