I went to the 11:00am showing of "Fame" today and liked it, though not as well as the original.

It is rated PG, and there was some minor profanity (including the S-word quite prominently), and some "approaching adult themes" (but nothing explicit.)

In the "approaching adult themes" category:

1. One character had an 11-year-old sister who was shot/killed. This occurred in the past and was discussed, but not shown.

2. One female character goes to the trailer of an older actor, who attempts to film her while "role-playing" a love scene. Both parties remain fully clothed, and about the time he starts climbing on top of her, while kissing her, she screams NO and gets herself out of there. Her boyfriend had warned her about this older actor, and she went there anyway. I suppose some good life-lessons could be drawn from this.

3. One rather naive character talks his father into loaning him $5000 to make a movie, and then ends up getting conned/scammed.

4. One character gets devastated/upset when told that the character won't ever "make it" ... and appears to at least be contemplating suicide. (No suicide occurs.)

5. At least one character (clearly a minor) gets drunk for purposes of "practicing acting and gaining life experience" and barfs on camera.

And, of course, there's LOTS of great dancing, so-so acting, pretty good singing (several characters are really wonderful), and way too much hip hop music for my taste. The "adult" characters who played the roles of teachers/staff were all very good, and worth seeing. And I love that the song "Out here on my own" was in the movie.

(And, surprisingly, there was some nice gospel music in the movie!)

Hope this helps.

Well, I suspect that one of the characters (male dancer) might have been gay (by mannerisms and dress and body language)... but he was not specifically identified as being homosexual nor was there a "gay" story line.

No abortion story line, either. Or drug use. Or female nudity. (As were in the original movie.)
