My kids made home made Flarp (that putty stuff that sounds like a fart when you push your finger into it) at VBS. DS managed to get it all over a nice shirt. He picked most of it off but not there's a dried on layer. I'm scraping a lot of it off by rubbing a butter knife over it. ANy ideas. I don't want to get it wet until necessary in case that makes it worse. ANyone dealt with this before?

I don't know. It was made at VBS not our church. I did find that baking soda with a little water is supposed to disolve it so right now I rubbed in some baking soda paste after scraping off all that would come off.

I found a recip, if it helps determine how to get it out: Ingredients: 8 oz white craft glue 1 cup water 1 cup warm water 1-1/2 teaspoons borax powder Tempera paint (mix colors if desired) Directions: 1. Pour the glue into a large bowl. Add water and stir until blended. Add a few drops of paint and stir until mixed well. Set this mixture aside. 2. In a small bowl, stir together the warm water and borax powder until the powder dissolves. 3. Slowly pour this mixture into the glue mixture, stirring continually for two minutes. 4. Knead the gloop with your hands until it's smooth and stretchy. Store in an airtight container

Tempura paint is washable, so it should come out. Something that has worked for me before on "dye" type stains (red kool-aid on khakis): Boiling water 1/4 cup dishwashing detergent (like Cascade) Put the clothing in a big bowl, pour in detergent and pour water over, let set until cools. It lifts it right out.

Well I smeared some baking soda paste on it and let it sit. Then I ran the soak cycle through the washer with the rest of the BS paste. It seems to have come out> I'm letting it hang to dry so I can see how it looks dry and then I'll actualy wash it if it looks like the flarp came out.

I hope you get it out... In future, it may be worth freezing the item before trying to get it out ~ that works for chewing gum.

We have made a flarp type stuff, but the one we made was purley 50% white school glue, 50% liquid starch and some food coloring for color, so it washed out easily. If THAT is the recipe, it should wash right out. I think I would wet it.
