Anyone else have this problem?
I must have terrible taste in television.

Moonlight and Jericho are the latest.

What are some shows you liked that were not long lived?

Invasion - They yanked it just when it started to get really good. Had a great cliffhanger ending to season one. Only problem is there was no season 2.
Traveller - A mid-season filler show until Lost returned. They never really gave it a chance to develop.
TaxiYeah, I know, it ran 7 years. But the year it was canceled it won half a dozen Emmies, so it's run wasn't over.

If every show you like really DOES get cancelled, please do me a favor and start liking American Idol and Big Brother. Maybe then we can use your uncanny ability to our advantage.

Otherwie, show I like that have been cancelled:

"Carnivale" on HBO

"The Bionic Woman"

"Brimstone"

Moonlight: yeah, I don't get this one. I would have thought CBS would have wanted to nurture this audience, and the ratings weren't that bad. I'm just chalking it up to a poor management decision and moving on, because there's not much more else that can be done. CBS "learned their lesson" with Jericho and they weren't going to take this kind of risk again right after that one didn't turn out "well" for them.

And as far as the moving on, well, I was one of the "Save Farscape" crowd, and that sort of thing is a lot of effort with very little possibility of getting what you want. Here some examples of "Save my show" efforts over the years...

Farscape = a miniseries, after months of tons of fans basically harassing SciFi Channel management

Jericho = another limited season, but since the ratings were not good, this example might have been the nail in the coffin (pun intended) for Moonlight

La Femme Nikita = another limited season, with many of the regulars only having limited roles, and a really dumb ending

So...yeah. Not worth the effort. And, yeah, Invasion is yet another example of a show that should have gone on, IMO. But I guess I just don't have "typical" taste.

I loved Farscape! Loved it and was so thrilled that Ben Browder and Claudia Black showed up on Stargate, albeit as different characters.

I also liked Firefly and was beginning to enjoy Painkiller Jane.

John Doe was good and I liked the Dresden Files.

All cancelled

For a while, every show I liked got cancelled.

Anyone remember the show Veritas? It didn't even get through its first season. But I was loving it.

And yeah, I loved Firefly too. Annoying theme song, but the show was great, and I loved the movie.

I just found out that a favourite show of mine has been cancelled. It ran for 8 years, so that's not what I'm upset about - it's that they didn't have a series finale. The season ended because of the writers strike and then it was cancelled. That really annoys me, you watch for so long, enjoy the characters and their story lines and then it just drops off.

I was really miffed when Third Watch & Crossing Jordan were cancelled. NBC just isn't the same anymore.

Remember a little show on ABC called Push, Nevada (Ben Affleck script)? I really got wrapped up in trying to figure out the case & they went & cancelled it a few weeks too early. Shows that are meant to be mini series should not be cut. They should just be played out. kd

Hi, Going back a few years: George and Leo, Frank's Place, Yes Deer, were great Monday night shows for one who worked Mondays to Fridays then. Today, though not cancelled, ER, Boston Legal, Law And Order, keep getting jerked around by these .... reality shows which sicken me and make me more a bookworm than a TV viewer, urgggg..

While it wasn't what everyone wanted (another season or four) I would say after watching the miniseries it was worth the effort. IMO (and I'm sure some will disagree) it was an ending worthy of Farscape.

At the very least the story had an ending.

I get that most of the time these efforts don't accomplish the long term goal but at least it gets many series a second chance. And "Family Guy" was successfully resurrected, now you can hardly get away from it.

I can think of several, including Moonlight, Now and Again, Jericho and The (new) Bionic Woman. But "reality" shows go on and on. I guess they are cheaper to produce.

Actually, I thought it was better than much of the 4th season. Especially that episode where they all went to a planet where everyone heaved.

And, I supported the miniseries, both by viewing when it was aired and by buying the DVD.

If the TV networks had the same attitude toward TV shows back in the day that they have had for the past fifteen or so years, hit shows like MASH, Happy Days, All In The Family, Barney Miller, Bonanza, and Gunsmoke would never have made it past the first season. As I recall, each of those shows had very poor ratings their first year but the execs saw potential in them and let them live on until they found an audience. These days, if a show isn't an instant hit, it's gone!

As far as shows that were cancelled that disappointed me, one would be Chicago Hope. I always thought it was a much better show than ER (which will be starting it's 15th and final season this fall).

Two other shows that I hated to see end were Star Trek TNG and Star Trek DS9, though they were syndicated shows instead of network shows and it was the cast who decided to end each series, not the executives.

Home Improvement was another one I hated to see end though, like the previous two shows, it was the cast (specifically Patricia Richardson and Tim Allen) who decided to end it.

I guess the shows that were cancelled that really bugged me the most were Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere, IMO the best cop show and best hospital show ever made! At least both got to have series finales. The St. Elsewhere finale was a big shock!

I liked the FOX show John Doe. Too bad it only lasted about two seasons.

Yeh, we liked Journeyman as well. One of the few shows that exhibited some marital integrity.

Earth 2
Max Headroom

Yeah! Two oldies but goodies. I rented the Earth 2 dvds last year and really enjoyed seeing it again. And Max Headroom was just so...prophetic!

I have Earth 2 and Max complete series on DVD. Great shows.

The Max set includes the both the BBC and ABC pilots, all ABC episides and the Cinemax talk shows. The latter are not so good.
