HERE'S the story.

While I certainly have no love for Islam, I do have a problem with the potential for a law banning the burka, or any other sign of a person's faith. While there are men who use the burka as a way of subjecting women, there are many women who choose to wear the burka as a part of her faith. In fact it is supposed to be the woman's choice...men who force it upon their wives, daughters, etc. are acting contrary to what Islam teaches. She has the right to do so if she wishes, just as I have the right to wear a cross or any other symbol of my faith if I want to. If anyone wants to ban the burka, then what's to stop them from preventing us from wearing outward signs of our beliefs?

Granted I don't need to be able to wear a cross to be a professing Christian (I did it for 2 years at my old school) but I still don't want the right taken from me and I support someone having the same right...even if I don't agree with their religion.

But I do support his efforts in trying to control illegal immigration.

old saying: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". lol When in France do as the French do. Most Muslims do not understand that Westerners find the burka intimidating and insulting. Some amount of compromise would be wise by both the French and the Muslims.

I gotta say though...it's very practical in a sand storm. There was many a day I wished I had one handy.
