I'm always game for a good scary movie on Halloween night....just wondering what others horror films of choice might be for tomorrow. And no, this is not a debate on the acceptability or unacceptability of horror films....take that tired horse somewhere else and flog it to your hearts' content.... Personally, I haven't watched the original HALLOWEEN in a while, so that's on the schedule... not real sure yet what else but maybe this thread can give an idea or two?

If you want a movie that's genuinely frightening, I suggest The Descent. It's the only film that has scared me as an adult. If you want a classic, you can't go wrong with Night of the Living Dead. They're coming to get you, Barbara.

It depends what kind of "horror" you are going for. Here are some that I think are awesome "Halloween" movies: Monster movies: Van Helsing, Eight Legged Freaks, The Blob, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Alien, Predator, The Thing, Them!, The Howling, An American Werewolf in London & in Paris, The Brothers Grimm, Swamp Thing, Mars Attacks Vampire movies: John Carpenter's Vampires, From Dusk Till Dawn, Underworld or Underworld 3, I Am Legend, Blade 1-3 Zombie movies: 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead 1990, Resident Evil 1 & 3 (though some of 2's story is needed to understand 3), Pet Sematary, Supernatural movies: Nightmare on Elm St., Ghostbusters, The Skeleton Key, It, The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sleepy Hollow, 6th Sense, Stir of Echoes, Gothika, The Frighteners (one of my favorites), Candyman, The Others,

30 Days of Night gives a really creepy depiction of vampires. I didn't have to suspend my disbelief there, because I was too riveted by their teeth and voices. j

Well, my halloween favorites are Arsenic & Old Lace and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Probably not what you're looking for.

Manimal, no offense but you have weird taste in horror movies. The majority of your monster movies are terrible. Van Helsing? Are you serious? Along with your choices for vampire movies (no Fright Night or Lost Boys?). And zombie movies. And supernatural movies, other than the original A Nightmare on Elm Street...which is fantastic. Candyman as well is wonderful, but I wouldn't watch it on Halloween. I would suggest you do something different for Halloween, tafkam. Try out the Giallo subgenre. If you can find them. Stick with Argento. Suspiria, Deep Red, Phenomena, Tenebrae, Opera, etc. A little Phantasm isn't bad as well. Or the first Evil Dead, since the rest are more comedy. The early Cronenberg films are pretty great. Rabid and The Brood especially. If it is available (doubtful), I would try out Polanski's The Tenant. It is pretty terrifying, in a very disturbing way. If you do want a few laughs with a few frights, go for Night of the Demons. That's a nice little cult classic.

I was thinking about a comedy classics marathon: Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man The Time of Their Lives (Abbott and Costello, with Lou as a ghost)

I always like to give those a spin come October time, plus I like to watch Clue and Don Knotts & Tim Conway in The Private Eyes. Nothing says "Halloween" like a Wookalar trying to suck your brains out through your nose. Clue sounds like a good one. I might have to try that one sometime. quote:

House of Wax with Vincent Price. Actually anything with Vincent Price. He was the master of horror.

Murder by Death- I like something funny. We also DVR some movies from AMC - halloweenthis week and 'will be watching them tonight instead of renting since I'm sure they're all out. I think we have The Frighteners, 13 Ghosts and The Amytyville Horror (the original).

The Changeling with George C. Scott was pretty good as I remember. And Poltergeist is always a fun favorite to drag out and dust off for this time of year.

Yeah, in your humble opinion! Van Helsing is one of my favorite action/adventure movies of all time and a perfect Halloween movie! Did you see the animated prequel, The London Assignment? If you didn't like the live movie, you may like the animated one. quote:
Along with your choices for vampire movies (no Fright Night or Lost Boys?). I never cared much for Fright Night, but I admit I forgot about the Lost Boys. Other than that, my vampire list is stellar quote:
And zombie movies. What?!? I pride myself in my zombiphilia. I own nearly every zombie movie ever made. I love them all, but most of them are just horrible movies. I provided some of the best zombie movies ever made. I did forget Shaun of the Dead, I didn't include Zombieland because it isn't on DVD yet, and neither is Carriers (though it isn't technically a zombie movie). What did you want me to put on there? Colossal eye-rollers like Tokyo Zombie or Vanguard or Automaton Transfusion? Blech! quote:

You are one of those people who only thinks movies are good if they are kitschy, artsy fartsy, niche, low budget, foreign films that nobody has ever heard of. No wonder you didn't like my choices of A-list, big budget, widely popular American popcorn munchers. I'm not saying this as a negative! I just couldn't figure out why you called my list "horrible" until I saw what you consider "good". Different strokes my friend! Argento makes me either want to LOL or fall asleep, sometimes in the same scenes!
