A discussion has me wondering how many of us have, at any time in our lives - including childhood, been inappropriately touched or have been inappropriately and deliberately exposed to something of a sexual nature.
I'm not talking about accidentally walking in on your parents during a private moment.
I'm talking about rape and molestation as well as...
...the whole gamut of inappropriateness. Running from the relative or family friend who would take any opportunity to "cop a feel" or look up your dress to exposing themselves to you.
What about the baby-sitter who showed you things or did things that were way out of line?
Or the times when the boys at school grabbed at your chest or spent most of the schoolday trying to see your panties. (When I was in 7th and 8th grade, I went to parochial school. We wore uniforms - ugly jumpers and button up blouses. We girls had to wear shorts under our uniforms because some of the boys were on a non-stop campaign to see up our skirts. They also did try to grab our breasts and, if we fought them off, punched us hard enough to leave bruises.)
I'm wondering how common these types of things, not necessarily the exact same things, are to all women.
You may relate your experiences if you wish but you don't need to if you'd rather not.

I completely understand. There are several examples in my life other than the one I related that I could give but prefer not to.

Date rape? The guy was unsuccessful. I was 19 and very naive and very trusting. I fought my way out of it and succeeded. I guess he thought I was willing because I agreed to be his date to his company Christmas party. I was just being nice and had no interest in the guy whatsoever. That was the only instance that I've come close to being sexually assaulted.

Yes - The one guy never attempted anything like that EVER again for fear that I would once again bring him to his knees WITH my knee.
The other situation I was much younger and I'd rather not go into it at all.

one of my mum's long time bf's would make my sister and I watch porno's, we were about 9, he would walk around naked, put scary movies on so that we would "cuddle" next to him, he would come and brush up against us when we were laying in bed and he came to wake us up for school. creep. I remember him touching my thigh once when I had a nighty on I never told my mum about it though.

Apart from kindergarten curiosity and a classmate bringing porn to school when I was 10, I can't think of anything. And since that's really nothing compared to what millions of others have gone through, I voted "no."

Groped by the boys on the bus almost daily when I was in 6th grade or so. I still won't let hubby tickle/playfully "grab" me from behind, it just bothers me too much.

I'm saddened but not surprised by the poll results and posts so far. I think that so often when we know of women and children who have been raped and/or molested, many of us completely discount those lesser "incidents" that we've experienced. The groping, the inappropriate touch that left us feeling shamed, the being forced to see porn...but those things are tragically a part of many women's lifetime experience and they were wrong, too.

Exposed to when 7 or 8 (but I was with a friend, the boy was on the other side of the fence, and we just laughed and ran away), exposed to at a sports event (I was with 3 friends and we just ran off), and also indecently assaulted when I was 16 (could have ended up being raped if he hadn't become so stimulated that he was "satisfied" and stopped).

Yes it is very sad, and I agree, the groping and inappropriate touching just as bad, the being forced to see porn, and having other people expose themselves to you is just as bad. It is something everyone will always remember and look back to it in disgust, it's taking away the innocence of children (which the bible instructs as one of the worst sins) and it is traumatizing for children/adults.

Tragically, I don't think it was the few who didn't know to do those things, I think it was the majority. Especially if the incidents did happen in childhood.

Yes, first as a child on the school bus by high school special ed (not delayed...the troublemaker kind of high schoolers) students. The bus driver knew. Like Roberta, I did not know I could fight back or that an adult would believe me if I told. This went on from when I was 5 until I was 11 or 12 and changed schools/buses.
I was date raped twice. The first time, I was 14 and it all took me so much by surprise that I didn't fight. I did clearly tell him no though and was not responding as though my no meant yes. The second time, I was 16 and I fought and screamed. No one heard. I had bruises on my neck for weeks and no one noticed. I got pregnant that time and was terrified no one would believe me, so I had an abortion.
I'm sure there were other minor incidents, but the bigger ones are what stand out to me.
