Would you please help me help a dear friend of mine who's struggling with addition of pain killers? I know nothing about this issue. I know there's detox centers, where she's planning on going. However, it's the recovery process that gets her back again into the same spot...
How can I help her go from detox, to recovery, to celebrate recovery?

Pray. Pray. Pray some more. Be there for here. Be supportive. Let her know that you are standing beside her one hundered percent and that you will never leave her. Let her know that you will always be there for her through everything. Let her know that you love her. And pray continuously.

Well you need to keep in mind no one will ever change unless they truly want to. Detox is only half the battle. It is the recovery process that is the hardest (like you said). First things first would to find out if she actually admits she has a problem. If she is denial this will take a lot longer. If she does admit that she needs some help look into a Christian based recovery place like Celebrate Recovery (is she a Christian). I’m saying this because I have first hand experience in this and I have been there. Please feel free to write me at my personal email address or here with any questions. Be careful yourself. Most people who are addicts are also manipulators I know this from experience of being married to one . So establish some boundaries with yourself. Pray for her but also realize that she has to want to change and she has to be the one to accept responsibility. I know this all may sound harsh but I do not mean it that way.
And pray for her continually.

The setting of boundaries is also very good advice. You need to establish for yourself what your level of involvment is going to be. If this is a fairly casual or transitory relationship you may not need to do anymore than offer a listening ear and urge her to seek out the help she needs. If this relationship is of a deeper nature, then I would advise YOU to seek assistance. It may well be appropriate to begin attending Celebrate Recovery or Overcomer's Outreach meetings yourself.
Understand that this endeavor is likely to be extremely taxing. However, you don't have to know what to do. You don't have to have the expertise. Draw on the experience, strength and hope of those who have gone before you to guide you in your efforts. Seek out the christian recovery resources available in your area and ask them for support. They can guide you to further resources for your friend and will be able to give you the "inside scoop" from the perspectives of those effected both directly and indirectly by substance abuse.
Lastly, be certain to look after your own spiritual health. Prayer, Scripture and Fellowship!!! You can't walk a mile with you sister if you yourself are lame.

Might I suggest that you attend Al-Anon? AA and Al-Anon can help with all kinds of addicts, not just alcoholics. The reason Al-Anon would be helpful for you is for you to learn about the pattern of "using" people that addicts do. Even if you are very healthy emotionally, you need to be alert and aware of the tricks that addicts try to use, even when they themselves don't intend to.
