Dr. Henry Morgentaler, well-known for his activism for abortion rights, has just been named a recipient of the Order of Canada.
Any thoughts???

I think this should be read side by side with that recent, National Post article (mentioned/posted here earlier) concerning how eugenics was made "progressive" chic. Even more ironic to this Order of Canada award is that Morgentaler is a Holocaust survivor, escaping from the same Dachau that many pro-lifers (like yours truly  ) contended to have roots in abortion culture.

I'm not surprised by anything this country does anymore. Thought I must say, I'm *shocked* that the government is distancing itself from the decision. If our Christian Conservative Prime Minister won't even allow debate on abortion in the Parliament, things like this will continue to happen.

After some of the past appointees to the Order of Canada, I don't really consider the award much of a distinction anymore.
Among others appointed to the Order in the last ten years are Conrad Black, serving time for fraud and money laundering; and David Ahenakew, an anti-Semitic activist.
On the other hand, there's also a variety of other people with better records, like the Canadians who smuggled escaping American diplomats out of revolutionary Iran.
So it's a mixed company, basically.

There is a priest who had received the Order years ago who has given his back in protest of them awarding it to Morgentaler.
Too bad no one takes Christians seriously though.
