Is it okay for Christians to read their horoscope or do you believe such could create a 'stronghold' in your mind? Please give and explanation for your answer. Appreciated.

No problem with Christians reading "horror scopes". Taking them seriously is another matter.

10 "For you have trusted in your wickedness; You have said, 'No one sees me'; Your wisdom and your knowledge have warped you; And you have said in your heart, 'I am, and there is no one else besides me.' 11 Therefore evil shall come upon you; You shall not know from where it arises. And trouble shall fall upon you; You will not be able to put it off. And desolation shall come upon you suddenly, Which you shall not know. 12 "Stand now with your enchantments And the multitude of your sorceries, In which you have labored from your youth-- Perhaps you will be able to profit, Perhaps you will prevail. 13 You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels; Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, And the monthly prognosticators Stand up and save you From what shall come upon you. 14 Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves From the power of the flame; It shall not be a coal to be warmed by, Nor a fire to sit before! 15 Thus shall they be to you With whom you have labored, Your merchants from your youth; They shall wander each one to his quarter. No one shall save you." -Isaiah 47

I voted yes, however I agree with mvic that they shouldn't be taken seriously. I think anything which influences us or our will is not of God. I think that the stars have a definite pattern and I think all the heavenly bodies affect us in some way as we know for sure the moon and sun do. I don't think they should have a place in our lives as the tellers of our future. I think astrologists who don't believe in Christ should not be taken seriously. If and when I read them I see that many are repetitions and empty words. There was a star which led the wise men and I don't think that as Christians we are able to deny this This does not mean we should rely on stars to lead us though because God is able to do that. I don't understand the study of stars enough to make an informed decision precisely, but I do know God leads me by faith. I think there was a reason why God told Abraham to look to the skies and the number of the stars will be the no of his children. He could have used grains of wheat or some other thing which cosists of many particles for an illustration but He used the stars. It makes me wonder.

Hi Little 1, Let me explain my previous post which was more tongue in cheek rather than meant seriously. I see nothing wrong with Christians reading horoscopes, reading frivolous magazines, having tattoos and doing a variety of other things which are frowned upon these days. There's a great difference between being light-hearted and taking things too seriously. I for example would read a horoscope, if one came my way after the event, to see what did NOT happen to me as predicted. I chuckle and say: "There you are, another thing which was meant to happen to me and didn't". It doesn't meant I take them seriously - quite the opposite. I know many Christians who read "silly magazines" (in my opinion), or have tattoos; I've even known men of the cloth who smoke cigarettes and in one instance a pipe. Does that make them lesser Christians? I think not.

I was reading my horoscope after coming to faith and I don't believe it made me a lesser Christian either. I do have an honest concern regarding horoscopes because I realised the stronghold it was creating in my own mind and I know others who are in bondage to horoscopes to the point that they will not go outside their homes if their horoscope gives a bad reading. I am concerned about such and personally prefer to stay well clear of them and won't even read one for fun because I have seen another side to them but I am aware that others (includine yourself) may not take them as seriously. This would not prevent me from sharing my concern however which is not meant to be judgemental and please forgive me if this is how you may have interpreted my post.
