I'm trying to upload a photo for my avatar (isn't that the photo that goes under your name when you post?). But apparently my photo is too large. How do I make my photo smaller? It seems like I've been to some website that will do it, but I can't remember.

Moving this from Feedback to Computers & Technology, where others will see it easier and help out.

http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ should do the trick. I googled for website shrink photo and that was teh first result. Most photo editing software can do it--if you have MS Office, they have a nice program called the Office Picture Manager that is very handy for basic editing. Picasa, Irfanview (I believe so) and others can do this--both are free programs. of course, if this isn't something you do a lot, its most likely quicker and easier just to find a site like the one above.

I think you have to have a minimum of 50 posts to upload an avatar.

I managed to try out that site with no problem. 1) Have your picture that you need to shrink on your local HD. 2) Go to that site at this link: http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/ 3) Upload the picture from your local HD at this prompt: -> 1 Choose Photo and click on the button at 3) to resize. 4) It will give you a new page with 3 cropped pictures of your original picture: a) top or left crop b) centre crop c) bottom or right crop. Pick on the photo you want for your avatar, and save it on your local HD, by clicking on the prompt 'Download this picture Now' corresponding to the picture you want. Then you got the shrunk picture on your local HD.

Keep in mind the file can only be 10K or less, the image can be no larger than 145 X 145 pixels. And yes you need a minimum of 50 posts to use your own image in an avatar.

After you hit fire MS Paint(Programs->Accessories->Paint)then Image->Stretch/Skew. In the 'Stretch' dialog box experiment with different 'percentages' always keeping the values(H/V)the same. CAUTION:Make a copy to fiddle with and save your original.

I use photoshop and got frustrated trying to do it manually. Now I shrink the image size down myself and then use "save for web" which gets the file size right. See if you software does something similar.
