How much do you socialize with people from work? Do you hang out with the people you work with or do you just talk to them at work?

In the past I have not usually socialized with people from work. Not for any reason, it just didn't work out. However, at my last job, I worked with my mom so that was not the case.

Not at all. Being the business owner, it's just not kosher.

Very rarely. I've had a few coworkers with whom I had limited outside work contact, but not many. One reason is what most consider a "good time" does not fit my idea of the same...but a big part of it is that we all work at a remote "commuter" site. The closest anyone can live to work is 20 miles. People live in all directions relative to work, so my friends at work rarely live where socializing does not require a lot of effort and driving on the part of one or the other. I'm not going to drive an hour 1 way to have coffee with a friend from work unless I have other reasons to make that drive.

It depends on the place. My current workplace is pretty small (11 people) and very social. It's not uncommon to find half the office sitting out on the loading dock around 5:00 having a beer.

At my current job, I just talk to people at work and don't hang out with any of them. Well except I did talk to a woman on the phone a few times, but that was b/c she had broken her arm and was gone from work for a really long time, and she was my "closest" work friend, so she missed us and we missed her. So quite a few of us called her to see how she was doing. I would prob never hang out with her though. I'm 29 and she's 57ish... Most of the people I work with are much older than me, and the ones near my age, I have nothing in common with. Most of em like to drink. And me, not so much.

At my previous job, however, I was friends with my boss outside of work; in fact she was younger than me by a few years. We hung out maybe 2-3 times a month. And then even after I quit we tried to meet once a month for a while. But life just took its course, and we don't keep in touch as much as I wish we did anymore. There were a lot less people at that job than my current one, so it was a lot easier to get to know people. And we all had our faith in common- I worked at a Christian Daycare. Now I work at a factory in production.

I socialize with everyone, except like two. I work with children, and the two coworkers I don't socialize with are in their offices while I am in the classrooms.

I only hang out with my coworkers, Jessica & Amy outside of work. But everyone else, I just talk to them. I absolutely love my job!

Generally I don't - mainly because I haven't had anything in common with my co-workers in the past. Also, I've usually worked with people who were in the phase of life where their families were everything (married with children - age ranges of co-workers were usually mid to late 30s through 50s). Now, I work with a lot of 20-something single or just married (with no children) christians and they are always socializing. Lots of them live together (roommates - same sex - nothing funny going on). The whole group does things together about two times a month. But ... I unfortunately get very few working hours (only one day a week) so I don't know much about the get togethers. I'm also not in my 20s and my interests have changed a little bit. But I hope to get together with some of them in the future. It seems like fun.

Currently, I work at Burger King and on occasion some of the girls and I get together and go to dinner. Though there have been times where we all went to Chuckee Cheeses..lol. I love that ski ball game. We did have a pool party that one of the employees held for us, and that was a blast too. I have to say that we are a pretty tight crew, even though I am the old geezer in the group..lol.

I don't generally socialize with my co-workers.

First I am a manager in my department, so I have to maintain some distance so I don't lose authority with employees.

Second, I live 45 minutes away from my office and have no co-workers that live within 25 minutes of me. So doing things socially with any of them is problematic.

Lastly, female/male relationships. I am a male, I work with a lot of females. I don't go to lunch with any of them, I don't generally do anything with any of them. I think that it is far better to keep a clear distance, than to get involved in even a "friendly" relationship. Far too many men have fallen into sinful relationships that seemed harmless at the beginning.

I occasionally have lunch with co-workers. Not much socializing after work, simply because my family takes a good bit of that time.

Our office will occasionally have a dinner or get-together to give everyone a chance to get to know each other better - once a year with families.

Here at this job....I socialize a fair amount here at the office. It's sort of the nature of my job (Art Director within the Creative Services and Marketing).

I have a few people I go to lunch with regularly. And, I typically will be included in larger "group" lunches, and do lunch with people that I typically don't talk to "socially".......I go "out" to lunch pretty much EVERY day...and rarely am I ever alone....someone (or a group) is almost always with me....sometimes to "finish up" a meeting that we were having....or, just to get together with a bunch of folks.....

My "best friend" here works in the office area on the FAR side of the building. She and I "communicate" at least once a day (whether by e-mail...a quick visit if Iam on her end of the building, or she is over here...or something like that)...if it's going on 10 am, and I haven't heard from her (or she from me), we start to assume that the other is "out sick" or something like that unexpectedly....and, we do lunch often...

In the 4 1/2 years I have been here, only once or twice have we done any "socializing" with people from the office (with my "best friend" and her family).....my office is in Fort Worth, but I live on the "Dallas side of the world".....and, most everyone lives WAY over on this side of the metroplex....makes "socializing" outside of work very hard.

Now, back in my ad agency days (before I went "corporate"), wow....socializing was almost as important as work!....but, for me, that was quite a few years ago!

I don't socialize with people at work. Pretty much because they all like to go out drinking and playing pool.

We used to try to get together about once a month but because of everyone's schedule, that idea was taken off the table. So, now we just try to get together for dinner or a show periodically.

I do spend time with my school friends about once a month just to see what's happening in their lives and how school is going.

I like the people I work with but I keep work and play separate basically. The people from my work are basically just drunkards haha. They're fun to be around but I'm not into what they're into.

I do socialize some with friends, but not from my current jobs. I really am there to do a job, and then leave in a few months. Not really enough time to get to know people. So I try to keep to myself.

I've socialized with people from work very little since I was in my 20s and single. I am 51 now and married and my kids are grown.

Right now I love my co-workers and a huge proportion of them are Chrisitans. I don't socialize much outside of work though, but would like to do so. I guess I just haven't reconnected with that lifestyle. My kids have just recently left the nest, so my lifestyle transition is still in progress.
