In regards to a humidifier in the baby's room, do you ---^ What is the benefit of having one? How often do you use it (if you own one).

I have one and love it. I use it all winter long because we have baseboard heating and it dries out everything. With out it we all get scratchy throats and dry noses. I put it in the hallway upstairs. Right next to both of our doors.

We have one for Gabby's room and ours. Both are cool mist w/ filter and we run them as little as possible because of mold and bacteria growth. When we do run them I wash the filters everyday.

In our area, most homes have a humidifier that works in conjunction with the furnace and air-flow system. I don't think we would be comfortable without one, especially in winter. (Dry throats & noses, itchy skin, stiff hair) We use a steam-based little one ( the kind that you fill with tap water and plug in the wall) whenever anyone is sick with a cold or cough. I think I used it every night when I was pregnant.

We've found a humidifier in the room makes all of our allergies worse. Our furnace does have a evaporation pan on top of it that is supposed to humidify the whole house, so we have that when the furnace is running (wood heat...very dry).

I waned a humidifier after infant cold medicines were taken off the shelf. The humidifier helps loosen the cough so it doesn't hurt the baby's throat. If we had one, we would use a few times a year for colds. I can't think of another reason to use it. Instead of a humidifier, we boil a very large pot of water and put Vicks in it and put it in the baby's room when he goes to sleep. Before I go to bed, i re-boil it. Jimmy hasn't had a cough really bbad at night yet, and Timmy is old enough to take adult robitussin, so it might be a pain to be boiling water in the middle of the night. I think you may ant to keep it or return it for the cheapest possible one since you might only need to use it a few times a year. But, trust me when that cold comes, you'll be glad to have it. How old is Judah now? He doesn't have much longer before he can start taking adult medicine at age 2?

ORIGINAL: 2shaye no way. It makes my daughters and my asthma much worse! Mine too. During the winter if we are really dying from lack of humidity I'll boil a pot of water on the stove with some "smell goods" but for the most part we just survive and Colorado is pretty darn dry.
