Is it wrong to ask if someone found God before their death? I thought nothing of this question and thought it was one of loving concern; until today when someone asked it and others thought he was evil for speaking ill of the dead. Maybe I am missing something here
Non-Christians might find it annoying (evil? I don't know about THAT). But if they were Christians, I see no reason why they too wouldn't be concerned. Unless it was so obvious (to them) that he did or didn't find God that the question was taken as offensive. Perhaps it was obvious he DIDN'T find God and they were annoyed by you bringing it up that he's going to Hell (even though you didn't know).
Other than that, I don't know. I don't know any secret Christian manners.

Well obviously the quistion should have been ask of the person themself before they died.
But having said that I do not personally see the question as offensive.

Hope springs eternal however once a person has come to his final reward he's sealed for eternity. We can't know a person's heart, that's reserved for God and the person judgment, we only can assess one's obedience to Jesus' sacrifice, obedience and Victory.

I don't think it is wrong or evil but it could be hurtful. If a loved one had died recently and their salvation was in question it might hurt the grieving one to have to respond to this. It also might make a difference as to who was asking and their relationship to the one being asked.
