Has anyone else seen this movie yet? I saw it over the weekend and it turned out completely different than what I thought. I can't hardly wrap my head around it just yet...was it a bash on Christians? What are your thoughts??

I saw it too -- wasn't my choice. I loved "The Office" and "Extras" but Gervais has a very limited range as an actor and I have grown tired of his one note performances.
I agree that the anti-religion stuff was a bit of a surprise -- there was not a hint of it in any of the trailers, which I guess was actually a pretty good move when you trying to get people to see your movie in what is still a very religious country. Gervais is an atheist, so it's not that surprising he decided that religion was ripe to me made fun of.
I don't really mind people taking a swipe at religion, if it is well done. I certainly don't see why it's more objectionable that all the gore and violence that some people on these forums can't seem to get enough of. I just didn't think it was particularly good.
Mind you, he lost me right from the very beginning when he equated the inability to tell a lie with always telling people exactly what's on your mind. I mean, even in a world where everyone has to tell the truth, your waiter surely doesn't have to tell you your fat and ugly unless you actually ask him what he thinks of you. He could have made the premise work without having to do that, and it just struck me as sloppy script writing in order to get a few cheap laughs.
