Are service sector jobs like fast food, movies, retail stores a place people can still get work easily in this economy?

Depends totally on the area in which you are at. These are usually high turnover min wage jobs.
Fast Food - somewhat recession proof as more people skip fancier restaurants and either eat at home or grab fast food.
Movies - depends on where you are at. At ten dollar tickets a lot of people quit going
Retail - retail is slow this year and is always the slowest after Christmas and picks up again in the spring. However it depends on the kind of retail, some are doing real well and a lot are not.

I manage a McD and YES we are hiring. I won't lie though, it's hard work, people are annoying and if you're a crew person just starting out you will make 8.55 starting Jan 1. But it's a job! Oh and sales are up which means I can support more employees.

Hey G,
Yeah I heard on Jay Leno that McDonald's sales are doing very well. It's weird I guess. Some businesses do better during rough times. Wal-Mart does great. Dollar Store. McD's. ...But the thing is, I don't konw why McD's over say...Taco Bell....or Burger King, etc. Most fast food is cheaper than restaurants all the time.
That's good to know. I am getting out of my job to go back to school or change careers and am looking for a night job too. I want something that is flexible. I'll have to keep McD's in mind.
