Why are some topics "locked"?

Various reasons. 1) It could be a topic that is covered in one of the One Stop threads. For better moderation, some topics have One Stop threads in which to discuss the topic instead of starting 100's of threads on the same contentious topic. When new threads are started, they're locked with links to the One Stop thread. 2) A thread could be on the same topic as another thread. Sometimes we'll lock and redirect to that thread instead of having two running on the same exact topic. 3) Could be a TOS issue 4) The thread could be so heated that it needs a "time out" so it's locked temporarily. 5) Some threads have gone so long and with so many posts without any resolution, and they're turning into problems (personal attacks, going way off-topic, etc.). Is there a specific thread you're asking about? If so, please email community@salemwebnetwork.com and ask admin about it.
