Will any of you be making Christmas gifts this year? Whether it be baked goods, scrapbooked items, or knitted or crocheted items etc?

Will you be making Christmas decorations?

I think this year I will have the children cut out and put glitter on stars for wall decorations. My sister came up with a really neat paper poinsettia craft, so we might do some of those too. Last year she decorated one whole wall of the living room with various sizes of her pointsettias. Considering that they were just construction paper and glue, it's amazing how awesome that looked.

I was actually thinking of taking the kids out on a craft/gift hunt in the local craft and dollar stores. See what we can find, see what inspiration we come up with, and then see what kind of homemade gifts we can pull together. My kids are very young and don't have money to spend on their own, but I know they'll want to give something to friends and family members.

Are the poinsettia's made like the pin-wheels? Our schools art teacher does this project with 2nd or 3rd graders some years. Maybe 1st graders - I can't remember!

And to answer the op - Yes I do plan on making some decorations as well as several gifts. I'll likely do some scrapbooking or papercrafting types of gifts as well as baked goods. I also have enough jars of apple butter and applesauce to share! In fact my hubby wants to go with a completely homemade theme this year! I'm more then okay with ME making items to give, but he also wants people who give us gifts to make them. I can see where he's coming from, BUT I don't think it's fair to tell others that we want you to MAKE something instead of buying something.

My side of our family did a homemade Christmas last year. The gift exchange rules were that the gift had to be homemade by someone. If you purchased the gift at a craft festival or from a crafter it had to be under $10, but it was suggested that you try to make something yourself.

I always make each of my kids an ornament each year as well as a few other decorations. This year I think we are going to return to cinnamon applesauce ornaments. I made these several years ago with the older two and think it's time to do it again so the younger ones can have fun with it too. We'll likely make a bunch to give as teacher gifts as well.

Blessings,

Garsy

My almost 2.5 year old is very interested in gifts this year. In the last couple of months I have had to pack and mail a number of boxes and every time he helps AND tries to add one of his toys. So for Christmas and Hanukkah he is going to make trail mix for his cousins and a couple of close friends. It is something he can do himself (with help) and that he has a lot of fun with. And since we always have raisins, peanuts and pretzels around all I'll have to buy is a bag of the mini MMs in the baking aisle. Plus some small chinese take-out style containers and stickers. I would also like to make some kind of ornaments or decorations with him, but I don't have a plan for that yet. I am sure we could do paper chains at the very least along with printing some pictures off the internet and letting him color them before I cut them out. I'm debating between doing some kind of Advent calendar with the paper chains or buying a cloth one I can reuse.

I'm actually considering doing one of these too.

Here's an idea. You can buy the little drawer thingies at pretty much any scrapbook store and decorate them the way you want to.

I'll post the recipe for the cinnamon applesauce ornaments tomorrow when I have a chance to find it.

Blessings,

Garsy

I usually make something every year. Or at least work with my son to make things. Not sure about this year. I've been busy making things for others--requests, gifts, etc. I suppose we will try to do something again...maybe cookie ornaments...

We'll be making an outdoor wooden yard art decoration this year. I love to decorate outside, but things like inflatables just don't hold up well in our weather; it's too windy where we are.

So, we're going to do a gingerbread church and 2 gingerbread carolers. The pattern we're using is part of a whole gingerbread village set. If this one goes well, we're hoping to add a few pieces to it every year.

We always make cookies and things, and we have a craft day with our homeschool group [using crafts from Oriental Trading].

Thanks Garsy, I'll have to think about that. I've seen some Advent "calendars" like that in catalogs but they are usually pretty expensive. The cloth one I'm considering is the Little People one, Josh has the Nativity set so I thought it would be nice since the pieces would match. But it would be a little young for them in a few years. But if I did the drawers I could customize it according to their ages.

I always make 7 or 8 kinds of cookies. Sometimes I give some away, and sometimes we eat them all. I have to hide them from dad or I swear we wouldn't have any left for Christmas! LOL Lately I have been making snack or trail mix to give out too. Last year I made a recipe with almonds and chocolate that my sisters absolutely loved last year. I may make that again. It was very good and easy. I'll send the recipe tomorrow for those of you who would think this was yummy. It's not an expensive treat to make either as it makes a lot. I make all my Christmas cards and I may make some jewelry for friends and relatives.

I'm going to be quilting some of my presents this year! I'm not actually starting until after November 7th for Christmas this year! I can't wait and really enjoy the quilting process!

I've made about 5 Christmas gifts. I was hoping to do more.

Maybe I'll just start making things and use them for next Christmas. I don't work well under pressure. I've been asked to do a cross stitch for somebody so they can use it as a gift. If my concentration span wasn't as bad as it is, I'd probably consider it, but I'm not sure at this stage if I should. The person doesn't even live on the same side of the country as me, so it would have to be ordered, (and delivery takes up to 3 weeks), get it finished, then send it back to another part of the country.

No etsy page, but sometimes I put things up on my blog. There's not much there right now tho.

I don't have time to make things to sell. I barely keep up with stuff that I need to make to give as gifts!

Blessings,

Garsy

No Esty page but I belong to a group of card makers and on that site we have books where we can put in the book all of our cards that we have scanned. I have lots of pictures of my cards on there. I don't have a digital camera so I don't have a lot of pictures of the things I have made. Not unless I can scan them.

Did not want to post that until I was done. Sorry about that.

1. Heat 3/4 cup of Dove dark chocolate in bowl set over saucepan of boiling water. Once chocolate is two-thirds melted, remove bowl from saucepan. Add remaining 1/4 cup chocolate and stir until melted.
2. Toss almonds with a pinch of sea salt. Add them to the chocolate, tossing until nuts are completely coated. Using forks, remove almonds one at a time and place on a parchment-lined baking pan. Chill for 10 min. Roll each almond in cocoa powder, shaking off any excess. Store in airtight container.

My sisters loved them! I put them in Christmas baggies and they looked so cute! Here is another one that everyone liked.

All-American Snacks

3 cups thin pretzel sticks
4 cups wheat chex cereal
4 cups cheerios cereal
13 ounces jar salted peanuts
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. celery salt
1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
2 TBSP/ grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup melted butter

Combine all ingredients in crock-pot until well mixed and coated. Cover, cook on low 3-4 hours. Remove lid during last half hour of cooking.

My dad liked this one.
