I've had general body aches and a headache most of the day -- and I suspect that yesterday's H1N1 shot may be a contributory factor. I "laid low" for much of the day, had Pho for dinner (Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup), and ventured out briefly with my wonderful DH for a quick grocery store run around 7:45pm to restock some basics: turkey, hummus, pineapple. (Hmmm ... does hummus count as a "basic?")

Referring back to the weather-related posts above ... I hate summer, I like winter and spring, and I love fall. (Summer's here are very smoggy and very, very hot.) Of course, it's "Autumn" here and still in the 80s ... but I'm looking forward to the promise of cooler, cloudier, rainier weather.

It's OK to be mad.

I don't show my anger very often. The more I care about a person, the less likely I am to show that anger for fear that I will hurt them & they will vanish from my life. It's even more rare that someone will tell me that it's OK to be mad and even rarer that I am willing to accept that.

I've needed a good cry for days. I am not responding to anything else that has been posted right now because I can't read very well through tears (even good tears.)

It's definitely ok to be angry.

What's helpful though is if we've learned/been taught how to express that anger constructively rather than unconstructively, ie neither coming out in a shouty/sarky/sweary outburst against someone, nor in passive aggression.

The Bible doesn't say that anger is a sin, but it does say "in your anger do not sin". (Psalm 4 v 4, Ephesians 4 v 26)

Now, I am not saying that once we know how to express it constructively, we always will, but it's definitely a skill worth learning, because if we practice it enough, it eventually becomes more like second nature, and we don't then need to fear being angry, because we know what to do with it.
And it's also far more satisfying (and healthy, in every way) to learn to express/deal with it constructively rather than suppress it. Some people think that suppressing it is best, but actually it's not, because it then either builds up and comes out in an explosive way, or creeps out in passive aggressive ways (which can be equally as harmful).

I also find it hard to de-stress after a long day at work. It was suggested to me last week that I want to consider taking a Yoga class. Has anyone else done this at all? What do you all do to relax after being stressed also?
I would advise against yoga. Part of the practice of yoga is the Eastern philosophy/religion. In any list that I've encountered about ways one might participate in the occult, yoga is included. You risk allowing demonic strongholds to built in or around you. Find something else. Get a membership to a gym or a spa. Soaking in a whirlpool would help you destress.
Mike, you need to look into the class you'd be thinking of taking. I have been to classes where elements of yoga, tai-chi and pilates are combined. There's no chanting or anything, but the exercises are very good for helping to stretch the muscles and help people relax.
quote:

Why should they care? Yet they do. How can that be? It seems unbelievable.
Why do you care about others? You aren't the only person who has the right to care about others. Others have the right to care about you too. Just because you know all of your past and can see your sins and don't look at the good in yourself doesn't mean that everyone else should do the same.

We were told 'Love your neighbour as you love yourself.' weren't we? If we despise ourself because of our past, does that mean we should also despise our neighbour because of their past?
quote:

I've needed a good cry for days.
Then perhaps you need to allow yourself to cry and just spend some time with God so He can comfort you. Trying to stop your tears isn't healthy.

It's definitely ok to be angry.
I agree.

There's also classes for callanetics, and Pilates. They are good for stretching and for general posture.

Yes, I think you're right about the tears cleansing. I am so blessed to be part of this church and part of this small group. It's utterly amazing.

That's icky. I hope it doesn't last long. All the good things I said last week about how the H1N1 vaccine is being handled in Canada? That changed. There was way more demand for the first shipments of the vaccine than they expected and in some places the lines have been hours long. They shut down the clinics Tuesday (here, anyway) because they had run out. They're up and running again today and they're promising that everyone that wants, will be vaccinated by December but people are saying that the first wave will have passed by then and complaining that it's a bit late. I don't know why he would, but it seems to me that God facilitated me getting the shot when I did and made it so easy.

I don't think it's the sense that I don't deserve the love but rather that it is so unexpected, I hardly know what to do with it.

There's definitely more demand than vaccine and vaccination clinics here ... especially since they're recommending everyone under the age of 24 get vaccinated, plus pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions ... that's a lot of people. I am glad you got your shot already.... long lines and waiting months to be vaccinated = no fun.

My doctor's surgery phoned me this afternoon. They offered me an appointment for Saturday but I put it off as I've got a couple of questions for my GP about it ~ I'm seeing her next week and will decide then, she may well give it to me as I'm there if I decide to have it.

They'll probably run the clinic the way they do regular flu vaccines, so there would be minimal waiting.

Yeah, it's a good idea to get the vaccine if you can get it, because the flu virus can spread to animals. I found out on the news that a CAT was afflicted with swine flu after getting it from two people in his household! Fortunately, he is recovering. (I don't know if it's a he or a she, so I'm just using he, as it sounds better than "it".)

I'm doing well today, just a little tired from getting up so early and doing some housework and laundry. Right now, I'm watching the Phillies getting their bottoms kicked by the Yankees. If the Yankees win, then it'll be all over and I'll have to sing!

Hello, all.

I've lurked a bit but have been feeling too overwhelmed by everything that needs attention here to post. On Monday I didn't even feel up to going to work, which was definitely not good.

Roberta, that sounds like a lot of work, Thanksgiving for 11 people. I'm impressed that you took on that challenge.

I'm glad those who got swine flu shots were able to get them...hope enough vaccine becomes available so that all those at risk can be vaccinated.

Dh is having dental surgery, and I'm a bit worried about that.

Am on lunch and must go run errands...

I work part-time as an examinations invigilator at the local high school (get the exam room ready, give out papers, watch the students, collect the papers etc), which suits me as I'm only needed in November, January, March, May and June. I find it tiring but know it won't be for too long.

Today I worked just 8.30-10.45, came home and slept for 2 hours - so pathetic! I was wiped out!
I just really can't take the strain! <shakes head> (I'm fine now, btw)

Ah well, I have three mornings work next week, and will just have to schedule in naps after each one! At least it will bring in a bit of extra cash towards the winter bills.

I wonder if part of the reason for that is you actually have to be somewhere doing something at that time. I know that I find things I have to do far more tiring than things I choose to do (I can spend longer shopping when I choose to do it, instead of when I have to do it). Shopping isn't really a very good example, but it's the only one I can think of right now.

The good thing is that you recognise that you need to schedule naps in and can take them, instead of making yourself miserable by just carrying on with your day.

I'm sorry that you've been under so much stress. How do you feel now?

Actually, I love doing things like that (except for the cleaning the house beforehand.) I do have a back up plan in case things aren't going well for me. I've already got people bringing the drinks, salads and dessert. I just have to do the rest. It's supposed to be clear skies and 70º so we are planning on eating outside.

Before I had to go to work, I would go to the homeless shelter for Thanksgiving and Christmas and prepare their meal. I thought about doing that again this year, but if I'm not feeling up to it, I have no back-up plan that would work. Everyone who volunteers or works there has to pass a background check. It would be hard to find someone who would be willing to spend the holidays away from home, do the work to feed that many people and pass a background check for themselves and any help they brought along.

quote:

Dh is having dental surgery, and I'm a bit worried about that.

Dental work is horrible to have to endure. When is he having it done?

Hi, and Hugs to ((((((everyone!))))))! How y'all doing?

Harvie, I'm glad your friends are okay. We received a call from another relative, who told us that our family down there are okay as well.

I'm doing okay, despite my mouth being sore from yesterday's root canal. I'm also tired from the extra medication I took to cope better with my mood swings.

I'm going to work in the yard and house, as we have company coming to visit soon.

Hope all is well with everyone. Melissa, with the cat, just thinking about yard work hurts my back. I use to enjoy working in the yard but not anymore.
I enjoyed a day off. Haven't really done a whole lot because I am hurting today with my back.
In fact, I am now off til next Thursday. Believe me though, I am not complaining.
My hubby comes home tonight after being gone since Monday.
Harvie, I think you're the poster who has spoke about your husband and him flying a plane in Florida. Does he spend alot of time away from home? Just curious. Is it something that after awhile you just get use to?
Blessings to everyone here today.

Hello, all.

Harvie, I'm glad your friends at Fort Hood have checked in and are at least physically unharmed.

Melissa, hope your mouth is healing well. Dh had 2 implants done, and he's really feeling it today.

It's great that you can manage the preparations for such a large feast, Roberta. I doubt I could.

We are driving to Palm Springs tomorrow to see a comedian dh has hired perform. Long drive, and I'm tired, probably bcause I've increased my meds to the full prescribed dosage again, but I agreed to the trip.

Still overwhelmed, but I find that every time I accomplish something on the long list of things to be done, I feel slightly more in control.

I hope everyone has as good a day as possible.

He does spend a lot of time away from home. We've been married just over 6 years and we've been through 6 deployments, so far. (He's done a stint in Bogota, Colombia as well as Iraq -- again and again and again.) Even when he's "home" (as in, not deployed overseas), he can spend a lot of time gone ... and even when he's not out of town, he often works long days with unpredictable hours and no specifically-assigned days off. Right now, we're waiting to hear when he has to report to Florida (and for how long .... it could be anywhere between 60 and 120+ days).

I haven't gotten used to it yet.
