According to Wikipedia she has made (what I consider to be) strong statements about her Christian faith on a couple of occasions in interviews with USA Today & Parade magazine. Thats probably about as definitive a statement as you are going to get from an actress. Anyone who wants to see for themselves can go to Wikipedia and type in Miley Cyrus and her bio will pop up like magic. As far as the kids following her, its more complex than "Is she a Christian?" Remember Brittney Spears & Jessica Simpson were also Christians or thought to be Christians at some point. How will she withstand the showbiz pressure? That will be more vital to her witness or being a good role model than what she says now. Besides the only two who know for sure are her and God and perhaps not even her (we humans can delude ourselves). Nobody thinks anybody going to Hell is funny because its tragic but to be honest why would I pray for a famous person who has many more people praying for them rather than an unknown person? Unless I had a connection with them like being a fan or my kid idolizing them (if I ever have kids). I do get the "kids following her" angle though. I do occasionally pray for famous people I enjoy, respect or admire but probably not enough. I hope that isn't harsh and I mean no offense to you but its what I think every time I see a "We need to pray for (insert famous star here)" thread. Unless I'm going to specifically pray for every person on earth what makes Ms. Cyrus (who by all accounts is a great person so nothing personal) more worthy of my prayers than say the pregnant teenage girl who has just been kicked out of her house. OK, off my soapbox. I want to emphasize I mean no offense, just some food for thought.

Miley Cyrus (Known to Disney fans as "Hannah Montana") is most definitely one admired by young girls. My daughter ~ who's almost 11 ~ loves the show. Even my husband and I like the show. It's timely with the way kids think today; yet, it gives a good moral message each episode. Almost like a modern "Brady Bunch", if you will. I have seen Miley on several shows and she's usually giving the praise to God for her success. I do know that the Cyrus family has for years attended a Baptist church in Nashville, TN. Billy Cyrus and his family seem to have a strong faith ~ from an article I read several months back. Even though we can't accurately state someone else's surity of a personal relationship with Jesus, I've not seen or heard anything to the contrary for Miley Cyrus. I have prayed that Hollywood doesn't change her ~ as it can so many. So far, she seems pretty well grounded. I pray that continues for her. But when stars fall, it does give us parents an opportunity to discuss with our kids the pitfalls of fame and fortune when we forget to keep Jesus first. It also lets us point out the no matter what our life's calling, He can bless it if we look to Him to guide us. Donna Strong HEARTS OF FAITH www.heartsoffaith.biz

Anybody can go in there and doctor the text. I've seen some blatantly false and profanity-filled bios in Wikipedia.

Thats why I mentioned where I got the info. The site has taken measures to be more reliable. Also this information was well within the realm of possibility and matched what I had already guessed so I felt fairly safe that it was reliable.

OK, but it still can't be trusted under any circumstances. A lot of people think it's just like going to an electronic encyclopedia, but it's a far cry from that. If you're concerned at all about being accurate, you would be well-served to go to a more trusted source.

Donna Strong HEARTS OF FAITH www.heartsoffaith.biz My kids actually just started watching Hannah Montana on Disney last month. I watched it begrudgingly, at first, but I actually grew to like the show. I like it because it does reinforce a positive message and behavior. I may not be into her music but at least it's clean and not full of sexual innuendo or profanity. And it is fun. As far as "How Christian she is" and what quality of relationship she has with our Lord - that's between her and God. It's not what's showing on the outside that counts anyway. Ask the Pharisees. And, at least, she would be a better role model than Britney.

If you're concerned at all about being accurate, you would be well-served to go to a more trusted source. But here's the thing, it links to the other "more trusted sources" like USA Today. I just confirmed the info by going to that source. Wiki is a tool and one has to know how to use it. If you think of it more like Google with an introduction entry for your seach term and less like Encyclopedia Brittanica it serves a purpose. Use it as a filter or a clearing house of what is out there, then go to the cited source if it can be trusted and see what's up. It was much easier than putting "Miley Cyrus" into Google and seeing what would turn up. quote:
It's not what's showing on the outside that counts anyway. The OP expressed two concerns. One was the fear that she might "burn if she doesn't turn". In this case that statement would be correct. The other (and it appeared to be the primary) concern was the example she sets for her admirers / fans. In this case what shows on the outside absolutely counts as her fans can't read her mind or know her heart. Of course what's on the inside eventually shows on the outside, especially under the showbiz scrutiny. quote:
And, at least, she would be a better role model than Britney At one time Britney was a much better role model than Britney. But never as good a role model as Miley Cyrus IMO. We never know what the future holds though.

Of course what's on the inside eventually shows on the outside, especially under the showbiz scrutiny What I meant was that NO ONE can nor should "grade" or judge another Christian (overt in their faith or covert) on some holiness scale. This is usurping a power that is God's alone. Most Christians justify their judgementalness under the semantic of "discernment" but these are two totally different things. quote:
At one time Britney was a much better role model than Britney. But never as good a role model as Miley Cyrus IMO. We never know what the future holds though. Yep. We gotta hope she does something so we can knock her off that "goody-goody" pedestal. Then maybe we can think we are better than she is. Oh, how we rejoice when others fall! Sometimes, Christians can act just like the tabloids, we dig and dig until we find the dirt and then we start flinging it in the other persons face. Is that the example of a loving community we wish to witness to non-believers? BTW, Rufus 2000, I am not applying the former comments to you personally nor am I implying that you personally wish for anything bad for Ms Cyrus. I am just using your statement to make a different point. So I recognize I took it out of context, in that regard.

Not only because she appears to be a great person but also because I don't want to have to hear about her everywhere like I do Britney, Paris, Nicole or Lindsey. Its hard to channel surf or Internet surf without hearing about that nonsense. The sad part is that people care about this sort of thing. The Media people are fairly savvy and tend to know what the people want and give it to them. I wish more people wanted to know about our elected leaders or other prominent leaders and what they are up to instead of these celebrities.

This may or may not help. I seen the headline a couple days ago. I haven't read it yet but will later tonight or tommorrow. ; ) http://www.christianitytoday.com/tc/2008/001/1.19.html Here's a tidbit the article is entitled "Hosana, Montana!" quote:
Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus is a big believer in God's plan—in the divine destiny and hope that are part of His grand design. Fitting, then, that he and his wife would name their daughter Destiny Hope. Today, that name seems almost prophetic in view of the Cyrus family saga. Following in her father's successful footsteps, Destiny Hope—better known by her nickname, "Miley"—has become quite the phenom herself, starring as the title character in the Emmy-nominated Disney Channel hit series Hannah Montana. The 15-year-old sensation is now about to wrap up a hugely popular 54-city concert tour. I don't know exactly that they're christians but the show is actually quite enjoyable unlike most of the rest, lol.

I know Billy Ray is. He came back to the Lord in the mid 90's after backsliding. He isvery open about his faith.
