I would like some suggestions for organizations who help Christians who are in need and are very responsible and efficient. This would include those in poverty, people who need Bibles, those who are in halfway house type situations because of addictions etc. Thanks.

There's a resource in some major metropolitan areas called (if I remember correctly) Love, Inc. Primarily it's geared toward charitable relief work for basic monetary needs (not so much halfway house/shelter related). They may not have opened a chapter in your location yet. They were just in the process of putting a chapter in Seattle when we moved. My church there was exploring that group right about the time we had to move to Denver.
Typically it involves some level of financial education/counseling, but if you are dealing with folks that have those types of issues put to bed and just need a little assistance, I don't think this would be too much of an issue. Mostly, they do that to make sure that they're not just tossing money at a longer term problem that is fundamentally not monetary. If you have a fiscally responsible person in need, I would assume that that person could be somewhat annoyed over the diligence that's exercised by Love Inc. but could readily understand why they do that.
Take a look and see what you can find out - and be sure to let me know what you think and if you like what you see! If they're a bunch of crackpots, I would want to know so I don't throw that recommendation out there again!
Forgot to ask (duh): where are you located? Also, is there a specific need you have in mind that you're looking to fill?

I use to do social work in another state couple of year ago. If you will look up you local govt aid office most of them will have a list of area places thet will help people out as churchs,sal army etc. and other type of org. As we all know the govt can not and should help all the time. I had a book of place for the area I worked and the reqment they needed to know before they would assit people, Just get names and phone number then neyworking with personal action will get you the best aid may need. Just a note alway remember totell the person you speaking to thank you and call them by name, I had many of my co worker that could not understand how and why my contacts were the easies to work with, I try to treat even the rudes with kindess, Good Luck !

Most churches/denomination have a fund(cash/helps)designated to 'immediate needs'. Our local assembly it's our 'Manna' fund. You could contribute to the Church of the Nazarene 'Compassion Ministries' (http://www.ncm.org/) for example.

all joking aside, however, our country preacher recjames has a very good point...
the downside of foolish giving - and I must say I have NO IDEA whether peanut2 falls in that category or not - is that, after being burned, you turn off the genuine "calls to arms"
such was the case when the Jimmy Baker scandal broke while we were on the mission field in "88, though we had no problem (since ours was a short term adventure) many of the genuine field workers who had been doing the Lord's work for years in hot dusty Africa etc. had their support slashed by 40%)
it seemed the rationale of the foolish shotgun supporters who had been burned by Baker was:
"Well if ONE christian is a fake, then they are ALL fakes!"
SOME of the avenues suggested in posts above seem pretty reasonable, but, for sure, check things out - don't hum and har too long though - but be wise and share generously

Yeah. That's like here in the forums sometimes what looks like real, genuine need is presented, but because we cannot verify the legitimacy of the claim (nor do we want to take on such a task), ALL solicitations are violations. This COULD be a great place to receive help in time of genuine need, but because of the schemers, that possibility is nixed.

I don't understand why my posts were deleted? I'm new on this board. There is an above link to Teen Challenge, a ministry that I've worked with. Why are the mods deleting my posts? I was sent a link for a ticket and I don't understand where I am in this board, lol. HELP! Would someone please be so kind to pm me and explain how to maneuver this thing? Hi there,
I wonder, 'why only Christians'. Jesus spent most of His ministry among the poor, the lamb, the beggars, and thieves. If God points me to an organization to give to, then I do give. The rest of the time, as I walk around my own town, I take notice of who needs help, and in what regard. I then try to help, keeping as low a profile as possible. Some people, especially the aged can be very embarrassed in their poverty that they will bot seek help, but rather turn offers of help down. I know this stems from a form of pride, but, to reach them I must go through their 'need'.

The Salvation Army. William Booth the founder had a heart for the addicted. They actually help community in which you live. People in need of utilities, food, rent,etc.... They also make the person seeking come in and they give a quick course on managing finances.
I know in R.I. they have an adult alcohol and drug rehabilitation center
