I encountered a couple of Mormon female missionaries down the street. This thread is not primarily about Mormonism per se. They caught me without my Bible because I was out walking. I have an electronic Bible I keep with me. They referenced Ezekiel 36 or possibly 37. That's the passage about the stick of Joseph and the stick of Judah. You cult apologetics folk are probably familiar with the passage.

Anyway, they showed me the foot note in the bottom of their KJV indicating that the "stick" probably meant a scroll. I was ill prepared because I hadn't thought about the passage in a long time. It's been a while since I met any Mormons.

1) Does any one reading this have a KJV published by the Mormon church?

2) Should I assume or can anyone document that the foot note reading itself occurs in any other KJV Bible other than the one they publish?

I asked a friend of mine about the passage and he said the standard orthodox evangelical interpretation of the passage is that the sticks represented the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel and Judah. The idea being that it was a prophecy about God reconciling the separate political kingdoms into one political entity.

Comments? Criticisms? Help? Comfort? Guns? Arrows? Swords?

There is no actual difference between the KJV used by the LDS and other KJV's except certain of the foot / marginal notes.

That was the reason for my question. During the conversation I had with the women, they pointed out the footnote indicating that the word "stick" meant scroll. It dawned on me later that if the foot note was written by the LDS publishers, it didn't make any difference what what the foot note said, it only reflected the opinion of the LDS publishers. It would be like any number of notes in the typical study Bible, it would be the opinion of the editor or publishers.

I don't have an LDS version of the KJV but I could probably get one. There is an LDS bookstore near my house.

I asume this is just a morman reading because the Hebrew cannot be validly translated as scroll. The word used is 'aitz' and means 'wood' or 'tree'.

I assume that too but now I have a reason. What do you think the passage means?
