Is downloading music on the internet on something like limewire where you don't pay non-Christian? This question might sound a little weird to some, but I am a very young Christian and would like to get as much input from more mature brothers and sisters on this subject. It would be extremely helpful to have some scripture back this up so that I may investigate this further. Thank you all very much for taking the time to read this. take care to all and may you all continue to be in the love of our Father.

I don't have any Scripture right off the top of my head but as a Christian, I think it's stealing and from there, we know the rest.

I would agree with you. There are copyright laws on that music, so paying for it is getting permission to copy it.

The only time it's acceptable to download an artist's music for free is if they, the artist, gives express permission to do so. For example, I remember Five Iron Frenzy used to say people could download their music; but that was a good 5 years ago.
Otherwise, it's stealing.

Whether or not it is "Christian" or "non-Christian" (whatever that means), if you cannot do it with a clear conscience, and not in faith, it is sinful for you to do.

As for copyright laws in general, I find them to be totally man made and unscriptural. The scripture always declares that knowledge is to be freely shared. But that is only my opinion and we must still obey the laws of the land.

It is stealing. My coworkers do it, my friends do it, some family does it, but you are using a product without paying for it. I have a friend whose husband purchased bootlegged DVDs. She claims that since she just watches them and the husband bought them, he's wrong and she is not. She's a contributor and sits idly as he commits illegal acts. Our society has a hard time understanding that taking digital media w/o paying is wrong whether you walk into a store and steal it, or download it. Good for you for wanting to get it right.

In your opinion, is sneaking into a movie theater without paying for a ticket morally OK? (or, would it be, if it wasn't for the law of the land?)

The idea of "sneaking" in shows that it is immoral.

In fact, I watch many movies without paying -- It's called broadcast TV.

There are many sources of information and entertainment that are totally free to the public. People will always continue to provide this with or without copyright laws.

For thousands of years civilization has flourished with no copyright laws. Thank God that He never put a copyright restriction on the Gospel!

You are right. . . there are plenty of free sources of entertainment.

. . . but there are also plenty that are not, and to get them for free is illegal.

how does this apply to , for example, recording a show or music on a DVR, or a tape casette?

I've already said that we should obey the law of the land.
