1) Why are name changes so readily available? It's confusing when you have a poster that keeps changing their board name like one changes their underwear.
&
2) Why are certain names, such as just having your name be a few periods.. allowed?
Just wondering, scold me if you have to for asking.

Naaa... won't scold you... maybe make you send me a pound or two of fudge.
Anyway... two great questions. Here's the answer:
1. Name changing has always been allowed.
We allow everyone to have up to two accounts. They can change the name on the accounts as often as they wish. The system, however, will change the name on all of their previous posts. (I like this feature and feel it is better than we had on the christianity.com forums back in the day.)
2. Periods as a username isn't very... unique or identifying but it doesn't violate the TOS. We don't allow certain other characters only because it messes up the admin database.
I was just being playful about the "scolding" comment.. Sorry for the confusion everyone.
As for the fudge? Hmmm... what's funny is that I was in an area of the city today that has a chocolate factory and the smell in the air was soooo goood.

Did I mention that this factory has a side-outlet type store on its premises? Where you can get chocolate made that morning at discounted rates? And the entire place is filled with "samples". Yeah, samples my big toe... it's pretty much an all-you-can-eat type setting for them to showcase their products.
I swear I have to keep myself out of that area.

Now you're just being plain mean.
I'm glad I wasn't drinking when I read this. I tried making some fudge not long ago. It did NOT turn out well.
