Hello fellow Christians, I've known about CMC for a while now. I found it several years ago since searching google for Christian music forums. Back then I noticed there wasn't many forums/sites available for Christian music discusions. Today there are more available, but none what I am envisioning. Several seem to be geared more towards Christian (choir, etc.) musicians and not listeners of the mainstream records/albums. Music is a huge part of my life. Some secular, but mostly Christian. I listen to a lot of different types (sub-genres) of Christian music, scanning, reviewing, and downloading for new music at least a couple times a week. I've got a 32GB iPhone, 32GB Touch, 80GB Classic, several older nanos and a mini. My kids, (5, 6, 8) have iPod nanos. Christmas presents from Nanny last year, lol. I've built up 40GBs of music I've downloaded over the years, all complete albums, no pieces. (iTunes, iMesh, CD rips, etc.) What I though would be cool is to have a forum where the main concept is Christian Music, wiith different forum categories of sub-genre's within the Christian genre. Of course several other categories like musicians, general Christian chat, whatever the board desires, etc... As a network engineer, I've ran several small forums/sites and think I'm up for the challenge technically. I'm just wondering the demand and fuzzy on gettin' the word out that it exists while it's building up google rankings, etc. So what do you think? Am I wasting my time or is their a need? Edit: BTW I'm not really sure what happen to my old ID. I had "willieb" for the last couple years but I guess it times out because I can't use it anymore so I created a new one, "willieb1172".

I had "willieb" for the last couple years but I guess it times out because I can't use it anymore so I created a new one, "willieb1172". CMC merged with another forum earlier this year. When that happened all CMC IDs bit the dust. So that's why. Anyway, to answer the main topic question... No. I mean, if you want to make one... go ahead. But is there a NEED for a Christian music forum? Not at all. Between this site, christianforums.com, and the CCM Magazine forum there are some major forums for most CCM fans. And I know there are others out there. If you want to toss your vision into the fray... do what you want. But if you're asking this kind of question, then the time and effort involved probably wouldn't end up being worthwhile.

Thanks for the initial responses, I'm still interested in more replies. Just to give you an idea, here's an example of a forum format I'm thinking of. It's about a different topic (cycling), but there's tons of sub-categories and each have their own interest. It's a very busy forum. (Currently Active Users: 1484 (534 members and 950 guests)) http://www.bikeforums.net/ I've been thinking about starting a Christian Music Forum for years, and I'm still leaning towards no at this point. Not because I don't think it would do well, it's just that I don't have the time I think would be needed to get the word out to bring enough people in to make it useful. I'm still thinking though... Thanks again for your thoughts and replies.

Thanks again for your thoughts and replies. Starting a forum is pretty easy & pretty cheap, but if you have no way to drive traffic to your site, it's pointless. At work, I just started a forum specific to our industry, that's linked to from the front page of my employer's web site. My employer's web site gets ~60K hits/month. Yesterday marked one month since the launch of the forum and we've had ~4500 hits w/ 1900 unique visitors and 125 registered members. W/o being able to capitalize on existing sources of web traffic, we wouldn't have 1/10 of that. It's like developing any other product - what can you do that's better than what's available now? What incentive will people have to visit your site over other choices? -Dan.

I think it would be a great idea to start a new Christian music forum. There are countless secular music forums and only a handful of Christian music forums. I used to like the forums over at Jesus Freak Hideout but the censorship has gotten to be too much. I mean, I understand Christian music is the main focus but you can't even compare a band to a secular one musically without the whole post being edited by a moderator. So, it would be nice to have a forum that is mostly about Christian music but a secular band can be mentioned once or twice. So, I say I hope you end up having the time to create a new forum.
