I just received a free trial offer in the mail from Netflix today. I'm undecided on weather or not I want to try it out. Has anyone ever been a member of Netflix? If so did you like it....why or why not????

I love Netflix!

Off and on, I've been a member for many years now (8?).

I've had really good experiences with their customer support . . . the most recent one: earlier this year, I lost a DVD. I knew I would have to pay for it (as stated in their terms - and I also believe this to be quite fair). I called them, told them what happened and the following business day, the amount of the DVD was deducted from my card.

About a month ago, lo and behold, I found the DVD! It had fallen behind a piece of furniture and was still in the sealed envelope. I put it in the mail the next day, called Netflix to let them know . . . and within 2 days, my account had been credited the full amount that had been charged several months earlier (the 2 days was the time it took for them to receive it back in the mail).

I love playing with my que; rearranging the order of movies I want to see and so forth.

3 times I have put my account on hold (no DVDs; no charges) - each time with absolutely no hassle. In fact, the two most recent times, I've done this all from their website. BTW, you can put your account on hold for up to 3 months; and it appears that at the end of the hold period, you can even extend the time, if needed.

I've changed my mailing address at least 4 time since I've been with Netflix. Again; each time with no hassle; the information change was completely seamless.

A couple of times I've received damaged DVDs. I called them immediately to let them know; and the very next day they had put a new copy of that particular movie in the mail to me - before they had even received the damaged one back from me.

Customer Service is a very high priority with me; in fact, if a company's customer service is not good, I don't do business with them; regardless of how good their "product" is . . . because customer service truly is part of any company's product.

I have never been dissatisfied with Netflix; they are very professional, friendly and courteous.

Their selection of movies is huge. There's something for everyone.

I don't drive (and I don't go to movie theaters) . . . so the concept behind Netflix is, I believe, absolutely brilliant.

I've *heard* that with the larger plans that the shipment of DVDs is intentionally delayed so that the customer doesn't get to see as many movies as they would have like in a month's time. I personally have never experienced that; regardless of what plan I was using (and I've been on the vast majority of them).

In fact, the speed of shipping has been phenomenally quick many times. Sometime I have returned a DVD at the beginning of the week and have received a different one within 3 days of my returning the previous one.

Go ahead and enjoy the free trial offer! I think you'll enjoy it.

We've had Netflix for the last few years and love it. We've had no problem with them [at least none you don't get with any video rental...e.g. occasional damaged disc]. I like that they have stuff you can download to view, and those don't count as part of the number of DVDs you rent per month.

I've been a member since early 2001, and I it.

it has saved us tons of $$$ since we don't run out to the theatre every time something we want to see comes on, and I love the play now feature.

Netflix is awesome.

We joined netflix about a year and a half ago when we turned off our satellite service, and really love their service as well. We started out on four at a time but have since cut it back to three at a time. We usually have one choice for the kids, one movie for hubby and I, and one disc of a TV series out at a time.

I love that you can return them as quickly or as slowly as you like. The kids like to hang on to movies for weeks at a time.

I had to call customer service a couple of months ago because the payment tried to draft when there wasn't enough $$ in the account to cover it, it wasn't any problem at all. They just put it through a few days later and didn't charge us any fees or anything. Love that.

How do you go about putting your account on hold? We may have to do that this month, hubby is in between jobs again and if he doesn't have one before our netflix due date (21st, I think) I'm going to need to suspend the service for at least this month. Do you request the suspension first and then mail back the movies that you have at home? Do you need to give enough time for them to receive the movies before the payment is due, even if you've requested the suspension already - i.e. if the due date comes and they haven't received the movies yet are they going to go ahead and charge you? TIA!

Danas_Mom,

I went to my Netflix to find the "account hold" button . . . but since my account is currently on hold, that button is not showing up. LOL.

However, I clicked on "Help" (upper right corner of any page), typed in "put account on hold" and a link came up that one could click on (however, again, since my account is currently on hold, the actual form didn't appear).

Going by memory, I believe the system will ask you when you want to put your account on hold. If you have any DVDs out, it will also tell you the date by which those must be returned. I don't remember the exact number of days they give for someone to return DVDs when an account is placed on hold, but I think it's around a week.

Whenever I've put my account on hold, I did so on the same day that I returned any DVDs I still had in my possession. That way, the DVDs will be returned before the "due date"; and also, I don't risk having the DVDs returned and new one sent out because I forgot to put the account on hold. I hope that makes sense . . . I've noticed same day shipping in regards to when they send out new DVDs versus when they receive old ones back from me.

I don't know what happens if you put your account on hold but don't send the DVDs in prior to the due date. I imagine that would void the hold and you would be charged for services for that month.

Even canceling a "hold" is easy. When an account is on hold, no DVDs will be shipped nor will one have the ability to watch movies instantly. But, a person can play with their que while their account is on hold.
It's hard to forget about the hold - LOL - when you log into your account while it's on hold, a big notice reminds you of the hold and will tell you when the hold will be lifted. There's also button to click that enable one to either reactivate the account (cancel the hold) immediately (upon which, billing will start again - immediately) or to change the reactivation date.

What does TIA mean?

Heathjack, Netflix, doesn't "rent" their movies on a per-movie basis. Members of Netflix, are charged a monthly fee, depending on which plan they chose.

Having said that, I seriously doubt that you wouldn't be able to find a movie you liked. Netflix has a HUGE and quite very eclectic inventory; I truly believe there's something there for everyone.

Just so you know, here are the current membership plans with Netflix:

1 DVD out at a time (with a limit of 2 DVDs per month and a limit of 2 hours of instant watching per month)
$4.99 per month

1 DVD out at a time (unlimited DVDs per month, plus unlimited instant watching)
$8.99 per month

2 DVDs out at a time (unlimited DVDs per month, plus unlimited instant watching)
$13.99 per month

3 DVDs out at a time (unlimited DVDs per month, plus unlimited instant watching)
$16.99 per month

4 DVDs out at a time (unlimited DVDs per month, , plus unlimited instant watching)
$23.99 per month

The hold feature is great. Till DD#2 gets her driver's license, I'm running her around almost every night, and just keeping up with 4 or 5 favorite TV shows as they air is enough right now. So I've got Netflix on hold for a couple of months.

I love Netflix. It has saved us a ton of money--even cheaper than library movies because I don't have to pay gas to get there! We recently started watching them online, too.

The best thing about Netflix is that if you have to close your account, they will hold you Que for up to two years if you ever decide to come back.

TIA = Thanks In Advance

And thanks for the info! Hubby just stick two discs back in the mail today, so maybe we'll have time to get those replacements in and watch them before putting the account on hold for this month, heh. I'll have to warn the kids to watch their movie again if they want to before it gets sent back too.

Heathjack, you can go check out the selection at netflix before joining up. We have hundreds of things in our queue right now - old movies, new movies, TV shows (old and new), lots of MST3K choices for when we're in the mood for that, etc.

Thanks for all the input! We decided to try out the $8.99/month plan. Our first movie is due to arrive on Saturday. I watched one movie online last night (The Miracle at Santa Anna = AWFUL) and started watching a T.V. series. I love that watch online feature!!!!

If we like Netflix and end up watching enough movies we will probably up our membership to the 2 DVDs at a time plan....or more.

I couldn't get over how many choices of movies they have for shipment or to watch online!!!!

I just signed up for Netflix approximately 10 days ago. I chose the 14 day trial plan with the $4.99 plan.

I had my first disk within 24 hours of signing up. I accidentally ruined the return envelope that the disk came in, so I will have to pay for postage to return my first disk.

Mike, can you not piece it back together with scotch tape?

And AngelWings (and anyone else interested in Netflix), that's another great thing about them! They pay the postage BOTH ways for all their DVDs.

I love, love, love Netflix. We have had it for several years. We cancelled cable and just use Netflix. I love their diversity. Right now we are going through all of the NCIS seasons. They also have all the English mysteries that I love so much. As far as the slow down if you use alot, I have never experienced it and trust me I fly through discs. I have a nursing baby so I spend alot more time in front of the tv than usual. I often get movie, watch it, and return it on the same day. I usually have my next one within two days. Also, when there is a problem they handle it very well.

I also use Redbox whent there is a new release we want right away. I don't understand how anyone was charged unknowingly $30 dollars. Your bank account is charged daily for the fee so it should have been caught. I guess it wouldn't have if it was a credit card you weren't watching. Anyway, I have never had any problems with it.

I guess that I could, however I literally ripped the envelope with the portion that has the indicia on it off of the envelope entirely. It is not a big deal though, I mean it will likely only cost about 2 stamps to return it instead. Which reminds me, the price of stamps has nearly doubled in the past 20 years.

Is your plan 1 DVD at a time? I've returned 2 DVDs in one envelope a few times since I've lost a few of them. I usually just put a note that there are 2 DVDs in the envelope.

Yes Jodavi, just one DVD at a time.

Ahhh...I've used the 3 at a time and frequently mailed two or three in the same envelope....or the same sleeve.

I was worried when I opened my first DVD that I was going to destroy the envelope. I managed alright though.

I've been doing most of my viewing online. I watched season 1 and 2 of The Tudors. Season 3 is not yet released so I've been trying to find some thing to watcho online. Even though they have a ton of online movies I can't seem to find many I like.

I lent the DVD I got to my parents to watch and should be sending it back tomorrow. Can't wait to get my next one and am even thinking about bumping my plan from the 1 at a time to the 2 at a time plan.
