Recently someone I know was ordained. The pastor of his church had to recently step down from the pulpit. Someone else stepped in to take his place. He has only been in the pulpit for a few months. My friend was scheduled for ordination for some time but the present Sr. pastor tried to prevent it from occurring. He did not even go to conference and be a part of the ordination. The Sr. pastor is in his 50's but he seems to be acting as if he is a child. What was your experience at the time of your ordination--was it a special time or was a difficult time?

Mine was a special time, during a special service at the District Convention. After years of school and passing a formal test, candidates and their wives attended this special service. The candidates were anointed with oil, prayed over by the District Potentates, and presented to the audience as Ordained ministers. There were some instances where I felt like I was being held back, too. I persisted, made some enemies in the process (those who were doing the holding), and wa-la, Ordained. Oh yea, you have to meet with the district board (lovingly called the Sanhedrin who are elected Sectional leaders from within the district), and answer any questions they have, too. I have noticed that just having a paper framed on the wall doesn't really make the preacher. It is recognition from your peers that you have met an educational standard, they see a calling on your life, and that you have agreed to send in your tithe, dues, and other assessments to the district office as stipulated in the By Laws. Glory Glory...

What was your experience at the time of your ordination--was it a special time or was a difficult time? An ordination is usually requested by the Pastor, sanction by the board, and backed by the conference. There could be many just reasons and of course could be some not so just reasons that the present Pastor was not on board with the ordination. Why did the former Pastor step down? Thanks RC

Greetings in Jesus, Ordination is always with a pastoral recommendation. Evidently the board did not feel the reason for the former pastor's leaving was detrimental to your friend's recommendation for ordination. However, if the current pastor is in that position permanently, then your friend would have been wise to wait til the current pastor was ready to ordain him. Prayerfully the current pastor will not feel slighted by the board's action to ordain. I do have a question though ... did the current pastor lead the service to ordain your friend? regret looks back, worry looks around but faith looks up to where our help comes from ...
