Is it just me, or do you think a number of Threads started here have no point or purpose at all? Like this one for instance.

Tho we might tire of seeing 'Where did Cain's wife come from?' 52 times a year, it's new to that person and that person might be a new Christian or newly involved in scripture study. The following verse talks about different levels of knowledge and how we are to react. 1 Corinthians 8:1 Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. 2 And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him. 4 Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one. 5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. 7 However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse. 9 But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? 11 And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

There are some who post "questions" that are really statements, or are designed to stir up controversy or rancorous arguments. For the most part I have found the threads here to be reasonably interesting and motivated by an honest desire to gain a better understanding. Those that aren't tend to get replies that tend towards reasoned argument rather than rancor. There is not always agreement, but there is generally a willingness to honestly exchange ideas. Your mileage may vary since I am pretty picky about which threads and forums I frequent. Tim

Thank you TA Mosquito. You've made my point superbly. Like most people here I like interesting discussions; especially those that teach about various aspects of Christianity. Yet sometimes I waste time opening threads to read them, only to find the subject or question is completely inane. Thank you all for taking the trouble to reply.

Am I too late? Have I missed out on a pointless, utterly pointless thread? I try to. But seriously, we are all distinctly different. The various giftings in the body of Christ have a similar effect---creating the 'they want that?'. And some have a real problem with it. Their problem is actually with God. I once heard a woman go up to someone in a church and ask, "Why are you here? If you think that way, why are you here?" The beauty of the story is that one of the elders heard this interchange and he stepped in to say, "Because God has placed her in this body. He wants her here." So who knows, perhaps that pointless, utterly pointless thread is there for you at God's doing!

"Why are you here? If you think that way, why are you here?" I have actually said this before. I don't feel guilty about it either. The person I said it to, was so outwardly and boldly disrespectful towards God in a bible study. For a person who rejects Jesus, a bible study is not the place to hang out. That is the enemy causing distraction. Shut em down and move em out. I can't personally change them, so i have to let God do that. Allowing for distraction during God's time, does not honor God.

ORIGINAL: ta_mosquito There are some posters that seem to post new threads just to see their name on the forums. Sometimes they're interesting questions; sometimes they're completely inane. What stinks is when it's a good question and I want to answer, but then I see who posted it and choose to not post in it in order to not encourage them in their quest. I post a lot and would be upset if I thought anyone thought that of my posts but I wouldn't stop posting. I post a lot because I love the Bible and anything to do with the Bible - also because I hope it encourages others into God's Word. I think it is sad if there are people who only post to have their names appear on a forum. I cannot say that I have noticed such but even if I did, I hope that it wouldn't bother me to stop posting if there was something interesting to post (especially if it may be of help to someone) but I can see where you are coming from tm. Something I have noticed however is that the same names appear in the Prayer Forum offering prayers on behalf of others and I want to praise God for them.
