Hello,
Lately I've gotten on the Fireflight bandwagon, but I want some more bands with great lyrics(by great I mean, hardcore Christian lyrics type thing) like Worth Dying For and Re:zound.
Can someone help me out here? I really am new to anything more then celtic or classical music...lol

ok, if you want music with lyrical content that is inspiring & insightful, check out the following bands & artists:

Dogwood--melodic skate punk
Mortal--some industrial, some Beatles-esque tunes..
Stavesacre--heartfelt and brooding at the same time.
U2--i'm sure you know who this is
The Prayer Chain--anthemic alternative rock
The Crucified--thrash/hardcore punk
and finallly....

Scaterd Few--Sin Disease--fast, mellow, thought-provoking at the same time.

Most of this is not Punk Rock, but I don't think it sounds like you're really looking for punk rock anyway.

Search some other threads on this board about Rock artists and such, Myself and several others have made a nice huge list.

I don't feel like rehashing that, but I will say that for meaningful lyrics and awesome rock music, I recommend Seventh Day Slumber and Decemberadio. Those two bands are incredible.

ALSO, if you click the link in my signature, and can stream music online, DO IT, you'll hear alot of REALLY good artists that you'll like alot on that radio station.

Truly, none of the artists listed are punk. Like I've said many times before, Christian punk is an oxymoron. Punk music is full of the angst and anger of a generation fed up with self-indulgent fat cats. Not exactly a genre that lends itself to uplifting lyrics.

MXPX is punk if you ask me. Therefore you cannot say that Christian Punk bands do not exist. :)

I agree MXPX is punk, but their lyrics are not typically Christian. To me they fall under the heading "Christians in a band" rather than "Christian Band". What's the difference? IMO a Christian band is one whose lyrics are Christ centered and/or scripturally based, e.g. Third Day, Jars of Clay, Casting Crowns. "Christians in a band" would be groups like POD, MXPX, U2.

I don't think Christian punk rock is necessarily an oxymoron...as this generation of Christians could be just as fed up and angsty over some of the things happening in our churches and culture.

However, I agree that the bands listed on this page are not punk, with the exception of Dogwood and MxPx.

Best punk rock lyrics: Bad Religion

Just for fun, I did a search for "Christian punk rock" on YouTube.

Found these guys: Left Out
The person who posted the video says they're Christian, but their Myspace page doesn't say that.

Also found these guys: Transformer
Definitely Christian, but not as...good...as the other band.

I haven't heard anything from U2 that was punk since listening to their first demo before Boy. Once the songs got produced by Steve Lillywhite they weren't punk anymore. Perhaps live they were still raw but there's only 1 person on CW I know of who ever saw them back in that day.

Punk has an all new meaning today.

I was thinking the same thing.

I suggest anyone looking for Christian punk rock NOT listen to Screwdriver.

Truthfully not familiar with MXPX. But why must we insist on the JPM's to consider a song Christian. Isn't espousing Christian values enough? There is much of P.O.D.'s and U2 lyrics that I would consider scripturally based.

BTW, there is at least half the Bible that would fail a JPM test and not all the Psalms could be considered worship either.

I wasn't talking individual songs. I was referring to their musical output as a whole. U2 and POD imply scriptural values, but rarely if ever quote scripture directly. That's what I was referring to.

I consider any band composed of all Christians to be a Christian band. If they never sing about anything in scripture, it doesn't change the fact that they're Christians.

I will listen to secular music with positive themes from time to time, but it's just safer to stay in the realm of Christians making music since they shouldn't be putting out anything offensive.

I also haven't quite figured out what JPM is other than Juan Pablo Montoya. lol

Punk Rock died in 1985 when The Clash released their last album.

What's JPM?

JPM means Jesus Per Minute. An x amount of times Jesus is mentioned during a song.

... and MXPX sucks.

Big Lizard In My Backyard wasn't good enough? Or Hallowed Ground?

I don't know just what the world is coming to but it's gotta be bad when people today discuss punk and it includes PoD, U2, Avril Lavigne, etc.

I saw U2 when they opened for J. Geils Band on their Boy tour. They definitely were rawer back then but I (and my wife) would go see them today in a heartbeat. But nowadays, it's sure a lot harder to get tickets. Back then you could still say U2 and most others would say "Who?"

And punk does have a totally different meaning. Most of these modern "punk" bands have no clue. People think Reliant K and Hawk Nelson fit that bill but puh-leeeeze. Bubble-gum pop with quirky lyrics is more like it. Don't get me wrong I like both bands but I wouldn't in a million years classify them as "punk".

I don't think punk is completely dead...it's just on life support.

However, I agree with this:

Which reminds me of a story. One day a few years back, one of my co-workers came in and told me she finally found a punk singer she liked. Surprised, I said, "Really? Who?" She smiled ear to ear (she was so proud) and announced: "Avril Lavigne!" I looked like this: and informed her Avril isn't punk. Her face dropped as she said, "But she looks punk." (Actually, she looks like she just dropped a couple hundred in Hot Topic.)

What's JPM?

"Jesus per minute" It's how many times a song mentions the name Jesus. It's a rating some use to judge the "Christianity" of a song or group. Low JPM; supposed to mean no intrinsic spiritual/Christian value. High JPM; supposedly high spiritual/Christian value.

I will have to add a new acronym, "SQPM" - Scripture Quotes per minute.
