My wife does not read the Bible or books. What can I do to encourage her to begin reading the Bible? She is a believer, but, she does not enjoy reading anything beyond the newspaper. She has a translation she likes, so she says (NIV) but still, she never reads the Book. Granted, I think she has some type of learning difficulty when it comes to reading (she had to go to special ed classes while in high school), but, she is not unintelligent. My co-worker suggested perhaps the Bible on CD for her car. I was also thinking perhaps suggesting the NLT for her? It would be good for me, and my wife to read so that our child will see the importance of spending time in the Word. I read my Bible, although, not enough... Your suggestions are appreciated. C

I'm not a big reader either. I don't like reading anything. The only thing that motivates me to get into the Word is the Holy Spirit. I don't think there is anything you can do personally that will make her read her bible. If she sees you reading it and sharing what you read that day in the bible and still doesn't want to read, pray for her to have a yearning for the word. I think we as people/spouses try to get our spouses to do a lot of things. People don't make other people do anything. Only God can change the desires of ones' heart. All you can do as a spouse is set a good example for her and show her how much spending time in the word makes you happy and fulfilled. Max Lucado has a wonderful bible that has side stories relating to the scripture just covered. As a woman, I find his personal stories and insight to be very interesting. These side notes/stories are also wonderful discussion points for you and your spouse. His stories make the word so much relevant to daily life. She'd get scripture out of the discussion and as the days go on she may want to read it for herself.

That is what I was going to suggest, have a nightly reading together as a family. Then not only will your child see you reading the Word, he will actually grow up hearing the Word daily. Not a bad thing at all. Karen

How about the Bible on cd? Then no one has to actually read.

I also like the bible on CD. Great for car rides. Also I belong to a bible study and it's pretty indepth. Perhaps that would be a good help along with fellowship.

I agree that she has to want to read... I don't own one but have heard quotes from "the message" translation and it is pretty modern, I plan on adding one to my collection (I have a few) I would also suggest you start with some of the more interesting stories, the life of King David, or Daniel, or Samson, or Acts (story of the early church), Mark is the shortest and most direct of the gospels… might want to stay away from the books on the law at first.
