Two boys were punished this week for refusing to kneel on prayer mats and worship Allah during a class demonstration on Islam, the Daily Mail reported.
Irate parents said a religious education teacher at the Alsager High School in England told students to wear Muslim headgear during a lesson on Tuesday. "But if Muslims were asked to go to church on Sunday and take Holy Communion, there would be war," the grandfather of one of the students said.
The two boys belong to a class that includes 11- to 12-year-olds, and after their refusal to participate they were given detention, the story says.
Another parent, Karen Williams, told the Mail: "Not only was it forced upon them, my daughter was told off for not doing it right. They'd never done it before and they were supposed to do it in another language."

I wonder if the outrage will be as great if the muslim kids were told to pray in the name of Jesus.

I am really surprised by this story. All the time I was at school here in the uk we were taught about other faiths but we were allowed to opt out of actually performing things we didn't agree with. A whole group of Jews/Jahovas witnesses and two muslims were allowed to stay in the library while we had christian assembly and we were allowed to sit out topics about astrology or meditation. Everyone learnt but noone was ever forced to go against their beliefs. Shocking this.
However....this was the daily mail which is often said to be the most racist misogonistic bigoted newspaper in the uk. If this story is genuine it will spark major debate in the country. But This story is typical of the daily mail.
According to other nes sources it would appear the teacher was in the wrong and the school is taking the matter seriousely.
