You can vote for more than one choice on the poll.

Summer is around the corner, and that means swimming! For some of us. Some Christians feel that "mixed bathing" is sinful. Some feel swimsuits are like walking around in undies, and are sinful.
Swimming nude is not an option for them either.
So, here is the Christians in the water poll!

Swimming with long hair and nails while drinking and getting a massage listening to "jungle-beat" rock music.

Definitely.

Shoot them.

Oh, wait, is that a sin?

If it is at all enjoyable, it is a sin. There. That should end the whole "Is ----- a sin?" thread stuff.

Good grief, talk about straining gnats.

LET IT GO PEOPLE!!!!

I don't see any of these as sinful unless God has specifically told you not to.
Example: You struggle with lust and going to the pool or beach and you know that the Holy Spirit is telling you to stay away and you go, that would be a sin. Jesus spoke of gauging our eye out if it causes us to sin. That seems pretty extreme, but I think we can understand how strong God feels about sin.

What is your opinion about the young athletic type in a speedo?

not gross, but maybe causing me to sin

just kidding. I prefer that everyone use some level of modesty on beaches, and in everyday life. A speed swimmer needs that type of suit, but the rest of the world can get by without it.

Well, it's less about 'their' standards and dress then guarding my eyes and imagination. 'The first glance is a surprise, the second stare is temptation and the third is the yielding.' The 'sin', usually, comes between stage two and three; the 'dwelling in imagination.

I really can't vote. I don't know that it's a sin issue.

May be a wisdom issue, though.

For our family, we don't do mixed swimming. And I feel naked in a swimsuit, so that alone would suffice to keep me from it even if we didn't have further conviction.

I say we just burn the (swimsuit clad) witches and be done with it.

Someone posted once, in reference to this very topic, that we women should clothe ourselves in good deeds. I told her that I'd be clothed in more than that, thank you.

I prefer that swimmers of both genders wear something suitable (ha! suit, get it?), not because I'm worried that I'll be tempted but because I'm worried I'll be grossed out. I don't care to see your stuff, thanks.

As for nude swimming, alone in your own pool? Go to it. Alone with your spouse in your own pool? Have at it. At a clothing optional beach? Meh, I don't care because I won't be there. Anywhere else? Not so much.

I put my speedos away at age 30. But I still keep them around in case I need to scare away Mormon missionaries.

We don't do the mixed swimming thing because of modesty not because we think it is a sin. It is an individual family's judgment call.

If you someday have daughters will you let them swim with the boys?

~~~~~~~~
We do mixed swimming in modest swimsuits, DH swims for exercise and I take DD to swim lessons twice a week. So for us, it's not a sin.
I swim several times a week, in mixed company and i figure if people don't want to see me in my swim suit they have 2 options,,,1. they can look away or 2. they can leave.
if i don't want to see someone else, that's what i do.
my family was never against swimming in mixed company, so i never thought it was an issue. i wouldn't force anyone else to swim in mixed company, but it's not a sin to do so if you wanna.
I don't know, even my wife says it's just not right if I wore a Speedo (personally, it would probably scare everyone out of the pool, not-so-svelte thing that I am... )
Let's see here...I live in Hawaii a place known for it's beaches and all I can do is sit on them??? Can I wear shorts and a t-shirt??? Or do I have to wear long pants and long sleeves??? Do I have to find a beach with only women on it???
^^^^^The above is what is know as sarcasm^^^^^
My point is swimming is not sinful. Because that would mean that 90% of the tourists who come to Hawaii would be commiting a sin And I am sure ther is a Christian or two among them.
EEEk. you had to remind me about swim suit season. I think that tiny bikinis can be sinful or lead to sinful thoughts, but you can't control the actions of others.
I personally do mixed swimming in a modest two piece bathing suit (yes, I found one!) My husband and I enjoy a dip in the pool.
I've tried to tell young women to be modest when they chose their suits (do you realllly want that old coot to be thinking of you tonight?) But they don't seem to really care about modesty and want to enjoy showing off their young bodies. What can ya do but set an example?
I didn't lose all that weight for nothing. Besides, the chest hair factor will cover up any indecencies.
Not sure. I will probably have dh look through the "modest swimsuit" sites available and see what he thinks is modest.
At the commune, we did have mixed swimming but we wore the equivalent of 1920's bathing suits, though some ingenious "sewing sisters" had figured out how to make them lightweight and not a hinderance to swimming.
My dad wears one and I disagree.... It's just wrong.... Very, very wrong...
On another note, I have no issue whatsoever with swimming in mixed company although if the first thought people have when they see you in your swimming suit is you'd be more modest in your birthday suit, maybe you should cover up a little more...
I know for a fact that mixed swimming leads to teenage pregnancy. They told me so at church camp every year.
I don't see any sin whatsoever in this. Just cover your business. Don't be a stumbling block.
the church camp of the denom I came out of still has a solid fence around the pool, and boys and girls swim at different times. girls must wear a one piece suit with a t-shirt over it.
adult attending retreats at the campground are not allowed to swim at all...not even in July.
The decision to put in a pool in the early eighties was very controversial.
I know some of you have never heard of this type of thing, but it is very real in some areas.
I posted in another thread the genius of my church camp directors.
We had two pools. One for the girls, one for the boys. There was a cinder block wall dividing the two. They decided to build a changing area at the pool for modesty reasons. They build it at the wall between the two pools and left about a 3 foot gap between the top of the wall and the peak of the roof.
Being a good little PK, driven by hormones at the age of 14, my buddies and I would jump up and peek over the wall and watch the girls strip down to put their suit on and then again to put their clothes back on. What a great idea to enforce modesty. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
