I am starting up a new ministry at our church which I call Marriage Mentors. The Lord laid the vision for this ministry on me when I was going through a very dark time and my marriage teetered. We went to a Christian counselor who was recommended by our pastor, but frankly the counseling was not very effective. We stayed together because a friend reminded us that we made vows not only to each other, but to God. It was then that I realized that having a couple to come alongside and mentor a couple in crisis, or alongside newlyweds, is so desperately needed. For the past 4 years God has nudged me and called to me. Now I am finally doing His will.

Here is the question, I have one other couple already on my leadership team, but seek 2 more couples. Wednesday I am meeting with another potential couple. Our church is supporting my efforts wholeheartedly, but will not allow any kind of announcement until my team is together. The couple I meet with this week was a recommendation of my pastor, but he had no other couples in mind. Any ideas on finding another couple? We live in Newport Beach, California and I welcome any ideas.

We will ultimately offer mentoring to newlyweds and couples in crisis from mature couples who have been married at least 5 years. These mentors will have had similar experiences in their marriage so that there is a basis for their understanding and helpfulness. I have another pastor friend who is willing to teach a class for our mentor couples and I am following all of his advice, but we just need these last two couples on board. Please pray that I will encounter the couples God has in mind.

This is an awesome opportunity!! I will definately keep you in prayer. I'm sure the Lord will bring the right couple(s) along to help you in this ministry.

If there are some local Christian counselors in your area give them a call and see if they know of any couple(s) that might be able to help.

Praise the LORD!!!
I'll be praying for you, for I know the hard times of starting a ministry up. May I suggest that you ask the other group that you've already chosen, stable couples tend to socialize with others of like minds.

This was a number recommended by my pastor to assist in setting up and running this ministry. He feels this will help round out our decisions in setting up parameters for our mentor couples. Once we have a leadership team in place, we will then start the recruiting stage for our mentors. He is encouraging me to tap into some counselors in our church for my leadership in the hopes they can bring some professional views to the plate. So far everyone is too busy and "over committed" but I will keep talking until I find the ones God intends.
