After answering the phone, some guy claimed he was from a credit bureau. He asked me "How are you today" "You have some unsecured credit cards, correct?" I said "Possibly" He chucked a little and said"just like everybody else", and I continued to say, "maybe not". Then he hung up. I dont have caller ID so I hit *69 to get the phone number. After calling back aobut five minutes later, it rang a couple of times, then the recording came on by that well known operater voice saying the number has been disconnected. I hit *69 again to make sure i had it right and I did, so I redialed and got the same message. Who the heck can do that?

I don't know but I would report it to the telephone company. It could be a telephone company employee or someone with connections to an employee. Anne

Standard scam -- "We can offer you insurance on your outstanding balances, in case you loose your job or get sick. Just tell us what the numbers are, and we'll set that up for you." I doubt they waste their time on anybody who does not appear to be swollowing the bait right from the get go.

Just another telemarketer scheme to drag you into listening to them. Go online and add your phone number to the no call list. Thanks RC

You can also Google the number and see what other people who have gotten the calls say. And yes, Caller ID can be faked, and also most of the numbers these people use do not accept incoming calls--because they do not want you to call them back. The Do No Call list does little good with these types of calls. They are running a scam, so why do they care? They aren't going to purchase any list, and even if they did they wouldn't abide by it.

I went in the yellow pages and did a number look up and found him, because i noted the phone rang twice before the message of 'no longer in service' came on. It is recorded into his answering machine. I know I should call the police there, but for some reason, I am letting it go. What I'd like to know, is, how did he come across my phone number? There is one connection we had in that state.

Did they ask for you by name specifically? I am sure it it was most likely an automated dialer that dialed your number.

I have skype. If you did *69 on my phone, you'd get different unrelated #s every time. Just the way skype works, which is through the net. I'm not trying to hide my #. He was a scam probably.
