Anybody excited? Is your favorite band and/or artist up for an award?

I am actually not excited this year. The reason being that my favorite band is not up for an award. My favorite band being, of course, Audio Adrenaline. My favorite solo artist, Krystal Meyers, ain't been nominated either this year. I probably won't be watching this year.

I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to current artists, songs, etc., but didn't AA break up or call it quits a few years ago? I'd be surprised if a group that's not really a group any more got nominated for something. I think you have to actually release something during the previous year to get a nomination, don't you? Maybe I'm way off base here. And sorry, I don't have any idea who Krystal Meyers is. My local Christian station only plays about 10 or 12 different groups/artists, and she's not one of them. I did hear them say on the XM "Message" channel that they would be broadcasting the Doves, but I have no idea when it is. Sorry this isn't a good year for your faves. Maybe AA will do a reunion tour and album and get nominated in a coming year.

Yeah, one of my favorites is House of Heroes, and they are nominated for video of the year for their song "In The Valley of The Dying Sun" which is a great video, they should win. I also think they deserve Album of the Year, but the album was a digital only release, and I guess that's a reason to not nominate them. Since the album actually drops next month in CD format, maybe they'll grab that nomination next year. The album is absolutely incredible.

I'm planning on watching them for the first time this year. I don't believe my favorite song (Our Hope Endures by Natalie Grant) was nominated for any thing, but Natalie Grant was nominated for other songs. I am a fan of her, Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin,....and a few others I can't think of right now.

the doves... not trying to insult, but if you step outside of this for a second... oscars, grammys.... and doves? I know be in the world and not of it, but it just seems silly to try to mimic the world (an awards ceremony) while artificially trying to make it Christian (turn a grammy into a dove). Just saying, when I wasn't saved, and even now sometimes, it can be hard to take the message of Christians as a whole serioiusly when the things they advertise to the world about themselves are... the doves... veggie tales... TBN...

I lost interest in the Doves a awhile back, because it just seems to be the same fraternity of artists getting nominated for the same thing every year, and occasionally a new artist will come along that is adopted into that fraternity....sorry, just nothing there to excite me anymore...

It isn't hard to miss them when they're broadcast six months later on a channel that's seen in approximately 15 households nationwide. If they're broadcast at all. For a long time there was no tv coverage.

We're in the same boat - we never seem to know when/where they are on, so we usually miss them.

It's funny, but when I was in college in the early 80s, we would always land at someone's apartment and watch the Doves. We didn't have that great a cable service, but we could always get the channel that was carrying them. Of course, we already knew that Sandy Patty was going to win everything, so there really wasn't much point in watching, but it was a good excuse for a little party.

(reeking of sarcasm) Ahem*cough*.... Oh joy the Doves another year of my favorite bands being nominated!...NOT. The same bands win everything every year so I don't expect any different. But I would love to know who is up for awards this year anyway just to prove I'm wrong...Hopefully.

The nomination list is posted online. I was actually pleasantly surprised at some of the nominees this year (in a good way)

That is all.

I gave up on the Doves LONG ago... even working at them just isn't exciting anymore... it's SOOOOoooo political, it's just ridiculous. I don't mean to be harsh, but it really is just a popularity contest among CCM "darlings". :sigh:

I am always interested in hearing about the Dove Awards, but, like many people have said, am disappointed that they never seem to be relevent. There are exceptions, of course, but irrelevence is the rule. Maybe this year I'll actually have time to watch the broadcast. It's a good lark.

Irrelevant, indeed.... I just had to shake my head last year when Skillet got up to accept their award for “Rock Recorded Song of the Year” (“Comatose”) and they announced that it was their FIRST WIN in 16 nominations. Ridiculous to the core. Now, I *adore* Steven Curtis, but when a band like Skillet is receiving their first award (in 12 years)... and Audio Adrenaline has five (in almost 20 years)... and SCC has OVER 50... you have to admit, that's just ridiculous. And when albums/bands win GRAMMYs and not Doves (for the same thing), that is just as ridiculous. :sigh:
