Ok, googled this and confused me somewhat. I have read some on the Holy Trinity and on some other topics related to this subject.

My question(s) is: Is the Holy Spirit the voice and/or the hand of God? What is it's real purpose? Was it the Holy Spirit or God Himself that guided man in the writing of the Bible? Is it the voice of God or The Spirit that man hears? Was there a Spirit prior to Jesus, or is the Spirit what God gave us after he sacrificed His son?

The Holy Spirit is the nature of God who lives within the believer. I believe it the life force of God and I see Him as being kind of a WiFi connection that allows us to communicate with the Father.

We know that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in prayer and bridges the gap of understanding.

Firstly: The Holy Spirit is a Person... the third Person of the Trinity. He is referred to, therefore, as "He" (not "it"). The Father is a Person. The Son is a Person. The Holy Spirit is a Person. Together (and they cannot be separate), they are the One God.

Note: Scripture refers variously to "God" meaning the Trinity, and "God" meaning the Father.

The Son is eternally begotten of the Father. The Holy Spirit procedes from the Father and the Son. The three Persons are not "parts of God" or "parts of the Father" or "aspects of the Father" or "manifestations of the Father." They are distinct persons, but not separate. They are One.

In a sense, yes. The Spirit has the role of the "executor" -- or "actuator"-- of God. When God wills that something shall be done, the Spirit makes it so.

Yes, the Holy Spirit is the Person who inspired the writers of the Bible. But remember that the Holy Spirit is God Himself. He is not the Father, but He is One with the Father (and the Son).

Is it the voice of God or The Spirit that man hears?

The Spirit... Who is God.

Was there a Spirit prior to Jesus, or is the Spirit what God gave us after he sacrificed His son?

The Spirit exists eternally, just as the Father and Son exist eternally.

Prior to the Incarnation of the Son (i.e., before Jesus was born on earth), the Spirit was working in the world. However, it is debated whether He indwelt all believers as He does today.

RC Sproul gives a good lecture on the Holy Spirit here: http://www.ligonier.org/launch_mediacenter.php?tabID=2&id=2201

Cherished,

Looks like we're posting at the same time. "Breath of Life" is the title of a recent episode on RC Sproul's radio program, "Renewing Your Mind". I linked to the audio archive of it in my first post above.

Please listen... he really does a good job of bringing it all (holy spirit and the Trinity) into focus. (I'd say "within grasp"... but I don't think we'll ever fully understand what it is like to be Trinity. I think that is like trying to wrap your mind around infinity, or what a four-dimensional cube would look like...)

John-18:37 Jesus said: " Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
John-18:38 " What is truth?" Pilate asked.
Truth is what God our Father says the truth is, not what any man says the truth is.
The world needs the truth, God's truth more than ever before.
Time is running out.
Revelation-22:7 Jesus said: " Behold, I am coming soon."
Do we believe everything that Jesus said, or do we pick and choose what we want to believe?
Peace
