Hi all: Do you ever find yourself looking for reality? I mean, so many of us live in a world of illusion: music, tv, movies, video games, internet, news, hobbies, work, sports, the list of diversions is endless. Sometimes, our minds are saturated with these things to overflowing. Now I recognize that these things have their place..we need to relax and unwind, but, I find it interesting how some event jolts us into what is really "real." I mean, even "Christian" talk shows will sugar coat things and cover up, so to speak, what is real. As one who deals with chronic physical pain, on a daily basis, I long for relief. And yet, it compels me to break free from illusions. Thus, my physical condition, could be considered a blessing, an asset. I recall what the Apostle Paul said, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." 2 Cor 4:17-18 "Looking at the things that are not seen." What a radical way to live! Paul also said that we should set our minds on things above (Col 3). I know, I'm rambling..but, I find myself surveying the world while my mind is drawn away to some other place, some place higher. Do you ever find yourself craving what is really "real"? C

My father said to me many years ago: Don't concern yourself with things on this earth but with things in Heaven above. You're right - there are so many distractions and choices on this earth right now (in the western world at least) that we sometimes fail to realise that our sights and minds should be on things above. That is what is real and ever lasting! Sometimes it takes a jolt to make me re-focus. Like for example the thread from Pastor Debi (in Prayer and Praise Reports) about a young man who committed suicide. Although I am a thousand miles away I cannot get that tragedy out of my mind as I pray for him and his family.

Rosie said quote:

I heartily agree with Rosie and Concerto. The Bible tells us that what we can see is temporary, but what we can't see is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 Our hearts long for our real Home; earth is just where we pass through on the way to heaven.
