I got a lot of nice mini pumpkins from my garden this year. I grew the little 4 inch "Jack-Be-Little" variety. I wonder if the "Trick or Treaters" would appreciate getting a little pumpkin instead of candy from us this year.

Possibly, if you have some little littles come by. You know maybe 1-3 year olds. By 4 they might expect candy. Of course it is your house and your choice of what to give out (or not to at all) so if you want to do the pumpkins go for it. But I'd say don't ask anyone what they want - it is either candy or pumpkins. My son is 2 and although he does already equate his costume with candy he absolutely loves those little pumpkins! And I'd be just as happy for him to get one. Of course he only goes to 2 houses, mostly so the neighbors can see him all dressed up and the library parade where they don't give out candy!

some likely would - BUT I would have these sat out as an option, but have the candy as well. Knowing my three that will be out one of them would pick the pumpkin, and the other two would want both!!

Do you really want to become known as the house that gives crummy treats? I'm pretty certain that's how some kids would view you if you gave ONLY the pumpkins. We had a house in the neighborhood that everyone pretty much avoided because the owners ALWAYS hand out these disgusting coffee flavored toffee things. The home is owned by someone different this year so maybe things will be different.

Blessings,

Garsy

How about candies for the little ones and little pumpkins for the Moms or the Dads?

Sorry to discourage you but I think you'd meet disappointment.

I'd suggest a little pumpkin with a bag of m&m's or something like that.

just saw an interesting suggestion: give away kids' books that your kids have outgrown.

I dont think they'd be too disappointed, I know lots of kids who would think they are cool. Besides, its your choice, beggars cant be choosers.

My kids would love it and think it was nice because it was different. They always get a couple pencils and spider rings each year and love those.

My kids ages 8, 13 and 14 would have ALL loved to get the mini pumpkins. They get a lot of candy the thing they do not like to get is raisins except the 8 yr old she is the only one who eats them. The pumpkins go with the season they would have taken them home and decorated them. They bug me every year to buy them the mini pumpkins to decorate as well as the large one we carve.
