I was speaking with my pastor, and found out that our church does not have a web site. Well, I confirmed it anyhow. He wants a site, and I love doing that kind of thing. So.....I'll be starting a web site for our church. We are Methodist, and the general board of global ministries provides a web site for each church to use. However, it is very limite and not user friendly. Really, we can use any web site service and still link it to the main United Methodist web site. What site service does your church use? Any suggestions for starting one and making it as user friendly as possible? What are some ways we can make it more about ministry than just giving information and posting pictures?

Church websites are awesome. To begin with, they are great advertising. People new to an area will do an internet search to check out churches online before they visit, and just to have a web presence makes your church more likely to be considered. Directions are very important and should be on your home page, along with your service times. Other things that are very nice for a website: Ministries available. (We actually chose a church once we found on a website because of a particular ministry they offered that we were trained in) Pictures (it's nice to be able to see what the facilities are like before you visit Statement of faith Mission/focus of the church Some churches also like to have the pastor's sermons available on podcast. There's a large church near where we live that does that, and many people listen to his sermons before they even move to the area. Since they are already familiar with his teachings, they decide to go to that church. Another nice touch is a pastor's blog, and maybe a comment section. This can be nice for getting church people to discuss issues surrounding sermons. Church calenders, church bulletins, and church prayer lists may also be posted, although I personally think prayer lists should go up under a "member's only" section to protect people's privacy.

Very Cool!!! Go to http://www.tangle.com It used to be Godtube. It is like youtube but Christian. They have a link there called One Thousand Doors or 1,000 doors ... anyway, it is sponsored by the United Methodist Church and is pretty awesome. Very up-to-date and offering tons of info, help, etc. God be with you. I hope it turns out savvy. BTW: Is it okay that I placed a website address here?

Our church has a "What to expect" section where it tells you how we do things and what you should expect to see happen...and what not to expect.
