Ok, This happens to me a lot at home: I wake up in the morning with a very sore, swollen throat and my face is really warm. It's hard to ignore it and go back to sleep and trying to swallow down water is a little difficult. I usually have to get out of bed, use saline spray, blow my guts out of my nose, drink water and eat something scratchy to relieve it a little. Sometime's I'll prop my head up on two pillows, but I don't like using pillows at all normally. I'm thinking it's my sinuses/allergies, but I'm not sure because the AC is on in my house and the filter is new and clean. Also, this only happens at home, not when I'm living on-campus at college... Does anyone know what could be causing this and how I can prevent it from happening, or at least relieve it?

If your nose is congested when you wake up (due to an allergy or a cold), then it's likely to be post-nasal drip that could be causing your sore throat. The dripping down the back of your nose, where it joins your throat, could be irritating it.

Allergies are real bad this season. If you take a claritin then take yours in the morning and it will be at peak effectiveness at night so you can sleep. You can definitely be allergic to something at home and not at school.

Most probably it's the AC. Can you not live without the AC? Is it that hot where you live?
